XBOX360 archade buying advice and suggestions

Consider me a total noob when it comes to console gaming [havent seen/touched a PS/XBOX since my old PS1 days ... it looks like ages]

OK i am buying a second hand XBOX360 arcade without hard disk

1- can it be cracked to play pirated games [mostly downloaded]
2- what are the things to look before i buy it
3- can i use my old internal 80/160GB SATA or PATA hard disk with this console
4- can i play online after modding [rarely due to my internet connection high ping]
5- can i play games using my usb drive [16GB transend]

If i am missing out some thing then please point out as i am not aware of latest development

so i cant use any hard disk with this console or i will have to buy PS hard disk [dont know what they called]
