Okay, a friend of mine bought an Xbox 360 off the web and it a Xenon JTAG machine....But, when he hooked it up, he said it comes on, flashes 2 red rings and shuts off and still flashes the 2 red lights. So, I read online and most people were saying its more than likely dirt or heatsink problem. Is this a real easy fix? I have watched YouTube videos and most of them have editing in them so you don't know the REAL time repair time. I have searched eBay for heatsinks, but seen different kinds....does it matter? I asked on another forum and people have viewed my post, but scratch their butts like monkey's w/o replying......another words, will Microsoft Xbox 360 OEM CPU Heat Sink 2nd Gen - 0645 | eBay and Microsoft Xbox 360 OEM GPU Heat Sink 2nd Gen - 0644 | eBay fit in ANY fat Xbox360?

He has a Xenon, JTAGGED but 2 red rings...don't want to spend too much on it b/c we don't really know if that WILL fix it.....We will try blowing the Xbox360 out first, and if that don't fix it, i'll take it apart and clean it, if that don't work then I guess we have no choice but to try another heatsink..if that don't work....then we'll be pissed LOL. We have BOTH contacted the seller of the console, no reply in almost 24 hours...hopefully the guy will give us help on how to fix it, or offer to ship another Xbox out to him since the seller says they have another one...all my friend would need is the system since he has the power cable, controller and A/V cable...

Try the RROD fix if it hasn't been done yet. If it has, try taking off the heatsinks and reapply thermal paste appropriately (could have to much/little) and put it back together again.

Funny thing is, the guy that sold it said none of the machines had any history of RRoD...well, until now...I am thinking maybe the box had some dust in it, or packing peanuts (i didn't see the box it came in, just my friend opening it)....but he lives about 350 miles away and is coming to visit next week for a few days....so if we can go ahead and get a heatsink, in case its needed we could already HAVE it....so do you know if the heatsinks are "universal" and work on any system?

I can't remember if the heatsinks are universal, but I've never seen one go bad. The worst case scenario, is I've seen them not make a good seal with the CPU/GPU. I would pull the 360 apart, take off the heatsinks, clean everything with 99% alcohol, scotchbrite up the bottom of the heatsinks (side that touches the CPU/GPU) till it's got a good scuff on it, apply some arctic silver, and put the whole thing back together again.

Try cleaning up the cpu/gpu dies and HS and add new TP.

If that doesnt sort it try reflowing the southbridge (NOT hairdryer or towel trick), I had one console had 2rrod with perfect heatsinks and spread of TP and southbridge reflow cured it, you can also cut the temp trace but then you get no auto control over the fans and the xbox will slowly cook itself to death unless you apply a fan mod to it.

Fitting another heatsink isnt going to do anything, even if the one that was on there was partially warped it would still work for a while but the temps would just rise and rise till it errored out to 2 RROD. Hell you can just sit the HS's on the chips with a little tp on a bare board with no pressure for testing so its not going to be faulty Heatsinks.

You shouldnt really be poking around in it tbh, if its come as not described then you should head straight to a SNAD claim with ebay if the seller isnt responding.

Team x crap wont do much, it does repair consoles but breaks them at the same time. you just get normal machine bolts a few washers and a few useless pads for the underside that will warp the board. you could have bought the same bolts/washers from your local hardware shop for cheaper.

If you are going to keep it and try to repair then keep the X-clamps on it, ive noticed in my own consoles that I get a far greater success with x-clamps.
