Well I have an xbox on the 2.0.12625.0 dashboard and I'm plnning to flash the drive. my question is: with the help of a nand flasher or something of that sort is it possible to downgrade the dashboard or am I better off buying the stuff for the reset glitch?

Downgrading on xbox360's is impossible as the cpu has e-fuses that blow, stopping older kernels from being allowed to run. You can still flash the dvd drive with just a sata cable and JungleFlasher.
c4eva(the guy releasing custom drive firmware to play burned games) has said that all current CFW is now obselete as m$ can change the dae.bin file which will stop your backups from booting. He will be releasing an updated version to defeat anti-piracy checks completely, so if you are still going to flash the drive then you should wait until iXtreme LT v3.0 is available.
To find a clear answer as to which option is better for you, you should ask yourself this:
Will i want to use XBOX LIVE anytime soon on this console?
If the answer is yes, then the Reset Glitch Hack is not for you as you will no longer be able to use XBOX LIVE (unless you remove RGH). In which case you will only want to flash the drive. My suggestion is to wait for the LT v3.0 firmware from c4eva before you flash or you will have to open the xbox again to reflash 3.0 anyway.
If you do not use XBOX LIVE then you might as well do the RGH as you can copy the games to the harddrive and play without having to make backups of your discs, no need to swap them each time you want to play a new game.
Bear in mind that the RGH involves fairly difficult soldering and a bit of knowledge to succeed. If you are not decent at soldering you will need to take it to someone to have them do it for you(some points are very small).
Hope this gives you some insight mate

ok sounds good. Ive got the knowledge but I'm terrible at soldering. I guess for now I'll just have to do the drive flash. as for the reset glitch i'll have to see when my friend with the soldering iron is free.... Thanks again for the info. as for online stuff I own a PS3 for that.

also for the reset glitch if you plan on doing it i would not before M$ updates the CB on your mother board and then u cant do a reset glitch on it.
