Help PLEASE!! –
I have an old white style xbox 360 which has been soft modded to play backups. However the problem being I paid someone to do it and I have no idea what has been installed on it. I am trying to find out if there is a way of finding out what has been installed? The reason I want to know is because I want to run the games from a usb harddrive I believe this is possible? If it is how do you do it? I have looked about and am just getting more and more confused how to do this, so I thought I would try here.
I'm assuming when you say it's soft modded that you're able to play backups that are burned onto dual layered DVDs? If so, then the only way you can play backups is with an ODE. They're pretty simple to install and cost about $100. One such one is called the xk3y. If you were jtagged (another form of hacking the x360) you'd already be playing off of a usb hard drive. Anyway, hope this helps.
thanks for that. i have seen the jtag and it looks quite difficult with soldering etc is there one out there doesnt require soldering etc basically I really concerned about opening it full stop I have had bad experience at trying to open electronics before. Is the xk3y one of these? If I did do this and got it working etc wouldnt I need to alter/get rid of whatever soft mod is already on there?
Yes that is all it does allows the dvd drive to play backups the reason behind all of this I can get the backups etc but have limited storage space and dont have a dual layer so I have to buy them which is kind of a waste of time playing backups in my mind.
Even with the XK3Y, you still need to open your console because you need to dump the firmware from the drive - this is required for the XK3Y to function.
