Dead Island update?

I have a LT 1.61 flashed 74850c drive (to my knowledge) and just purchased Dead Island. Apparently the game is super buggy and there is an extensive day 1 patch. Is there a way to apply that patch without doing a system update? If not, am I able to update safely?

I also have access to a stock xbox. Would I be able to slap my HDD in there and update it that way?

Sure you would! Solong as the other xbox has the nessacary updates, then you can update on the Sxbox and copy the patch onto the Flashed console, Super simple, Then if the flashed console dosent like the update, stick it into a Rehash and resign programme with the correct console and profile ID's,
