    So, in "Linux Kit Beta release 1" kernel was Kernel2.2.1_ps2-6;
in "Linux (for PlayStation 2) Release 1.0" ----kernel2.2.1_ps2-7

    and in "BBNAVigator" kernel2.4.17_ps2.26.

So it means that sony created in background so many revisions of kernel....At least no less than 20.....

The funny thing is that xRhino Inc at the beginning wanted to create kernel 2.4.0 for BlackRhino---but then started to work on 2.2.1 in BlackRhino release because of Sony's comittment for kernel 2.2.1 to be used in Linux Kit.....

I just wondering like---can those "Updated Binutils-2.9EE-3b" and "Newer Kernels from BBNAVIGATOR" to be used in development and used to build Linux for PS2 from it ????

And what about packages in BBNAV---they are installed to HDD in BBNAV, or they just present on installation?

    Can they be installed somehow???

So in General BBNAv it is Linux, but people just do not know about it ???? Very interesting...

Best Regards from PS3 Linux User

I know that PSBBN boots from the HDD and then loads BB Navigator... now what I'll love to know is can we somehow edit the boot file or set a new one... so the PS2 will boot up as if it see BB navigator and starts to load it but loads Linux and make the PS2 be more like a PC and if you need to play a game just set the game cd/dvd in then reboot or add the cd/dvd before it starts up linux.
You most likely going to need a sony 40gb HDD to do this.... if it can be now that is.

Nearly nobody has touched the BBNAV as it would only install and work on Japanese consoles.

This in unlike the HDDOSD, as the HDDOSD had an American release at least.

Binutils v2.9 is older than the one in the homebrew PS2SDK: v2.14.

Sure, you can probably use the SONY tools to compile those old kernels, but probably nothing newer will work with those tools...

If you really wanted to use the Sony Linux OS on the PS2, why are you bothering with the PSBBN? Why not just go back to use the official PS2Linux kit? It's not like it's very much older...

Games will probably never boot off the Linux OS because they will use the entire Playstation 2. PS2Linux replaces the entire EE kernel too, if I'm not mistaken.

old an obsolete news Now it is possible to get PS BB NAV on any console (thanks to krHACKen).
If you really wanted to use the Sony Linux OS on the PS2, why are you bothering with the PSBBN?
cause as I already say - BB Navigator has much more newer tools than PS2 Linux Kit and some tools is unique for BB Navigator. And vice versa any tool from PS2 Linux Kit can be installed onto BB Navigator. I really have to distribute my work not only on russian sector of internet but over the world.... (Yea Im lazy bastard I know)
Binutils v2.9 is older than the one in the homebrew PS2SDK: v2.14.
of course they are older ))) They are even older than binutils from closed ps2linux site (binutils-2.13.2.1-1.mipsel). And yes to my mind it is not very good idea to use linux kit or BB Nav for developing. For example just simple kernel 2.4 compiling takes 2.5 hours on PS2 Linux Kit. Of course cross compilation can save our time but it is so difficult stuff grhhh...
If you wanna use PS2 for developing you of course have to use MegaMan's works on 2.6 kernel.

But BB Navigator is very cool stuff anyway

Yea, but only recently. And how many people out there actually know about this and actually use the hacked PSBBN? And of these users, how many of them actually bothered poking around it?

Oh ok for everyone. You can test custom BB Navigator install by searching on theisozone (PSBBN custom install 2013). Also you can test built-in linux environment. But be careful I must warn you that all stuffs are copyrighted by sony I hope im not breaking the rules...
