I've used Blackrhino a lot, and I recommend some software to use with it.

    Links2 Web Browser:
This is an ideal browser for the PS2. It is snappy, lightweight, and builds off of nothing but standard X libraries. It can be used with SSL. It has no problem with X-forwarding, if you'd like to access it from another system. I used it on my normal computer systems just for fun sometimes.

    Dillo 3.0:
Another great browser. To use this, you will have to compile FLTK 1.3, which will require some updated or changed X libraries. Here is a link to the libraries I changed, none of which require much work at all: go to the thread in this forum entitled "problems-compiling-glib-2-0" (sorry, I'm not allowed to post links yet, I don't have enough posts).

    Apache Web Server:
This is an easy build. Using nothing but the default Blackrhino installation, I was able to compile 2.2.20. Serve up anything you want. Even better, you can compile PHP as a module and run it with Apache. I've compiled up to PHP 5.3.6, and here is the configure command:
    Code:
    ./configure --with-apxs2=/usr/local/apache2/bin/apxs --with-gd --with-jpeg-dir=/usr/lib --with-zlib-dir=/usr/lib --disable-fileinfo
That will build PHP as an apache module.

What have you done with your Blackrhino?

I haven't switched to dillo 3 yet. Is it a big change from 2.x other than the core fltk?

Not a huge change, really. But nice to be running an updated browser nonetheless.

I have found Apache to be easy to compile. I've tried a lot of stuff but usually I would get errors, or there was always something missing. The fact that I'm using the slim through a samba share doesn't help.

I've tried to compile php but I haven't managed it. I will try your command soon, to see if I get PHP running.

I'm going to try running python on it, I've found out that deba5er has a pre-compiled version of 2.6 I think, so if I fail to compile again I think 2.6 is safe. I'll report later my results.

Sorry for the late reply. I've been missing a lot of posts.

I haven't been working on this lately, but as far as I can remember I've managed to compile the latest version (at the time) of apache. I think it was 2.2
I simply downloaded the source code, and followed their instructions. As far as I know source releases usually come with an INSTALL file and a README, which have the instructions for compilation.

Most of them only require 3 commands:
    ./configure
    make
    sudo make install

The last one needs sudo because it needs privileges, just in case you're not used to linux.

Try to download the source code from Apache website and try to compile it. Write back with your results

tar is available straight away. Are you looking for any specific archiving formats?

You should already have bzip2 (.bz) and gzip (.gz). Unzip/zip compiles fine (.zip).
