The LiveDVD is a separate PS2-Linux distribution and works independently of my USB image. They do not work with each other. You can boot the LiveDVD and run all of the programs there, or you can boot the USB image (which is slightly older, and not quite as good in my opinion as the LiveDVD). There are instructions on the forum for using the LiveDVD contents from a USB, but they do not use the image from the nuclearfall site.

No. The Linux partition is your PS2-Linux root partition. It is required to run Linux. The swap partition is required to properly deal with the very low real memory in the PS2 (32MB of which you can use about 30MB). The FAT partition may be deleted after installation if you have moved the important kernelloader elf, kernel, and initrd to the memory card and reconfigured kernelloader to start from there. I don't recommend deleting it until you are sure you understand how PS2-Linux is booting, and that it does not need these files on the FAT partition.

then what you are saying is that the live dvd cannot use the partitions made in the usb image by you?
if so then, using what should i make partions in my usb drive for the live dvd to recognise it as swap.
All thats written in the live dvd topic is, make swap partions using fdisk and mkswap commands. What are those and how to make them on the usb drive. what configration must i edit to enable the usb swap in the live dvd and in which file. how to mount the usb device in the live dvd as it is already mounted in your usb image. Please, kindly answer all questions.

The first part shows the use of fdisk (you can use with usb flash drive /dev/sda) if you wish.
The second part shows the use of Mega Man's LiveDVD DISC.BIN on a usb flash drive.

The end goal would be to run the LiveDVD without the DVD from a usb flash drive. Note that this will be very slow due to the speed of the USB on the PS2.

EDIT - for the segmentation fault error, if you don't have internet, you can connect the PS2 to a router or NAS device, and it should boot normally as it will see a network connection.

so can the live dvd run better through the dvd?
if so, i want to run the live dvd through the dvd. I just want to create swap partition for it on the usb device but i don't know how. please help me do this step by step . Also i need to know how to save progress after i shutdown my ps2. megaman explained it but he told to go in the configuration menu and type a code with the help of a usb keyboard. As i don't have the keyboard, i want to do it manually in the dvd please tell me how to.
And i don't have a router or NAS connection nearby the ps2 so any configuration i have to edit to skip the segment fault error when the network isn't available?
because before it used to skip the error like in your usb image, but recently the error has shown up.

EDIT: As for the swap partitions, i just have to type:"fdisk /dev/sda2" in the xterm?
And As for mounting usb deice i just have to type:"mount -r /dev/sda1 /usb" in the xterm?
If not please tell me the correct way to do so.

Download version 2.6. It has virtual keyboard support and fixed support for your v12. So you can now autoboot the dvd. This was released at the start of this month to fix a couple of the problems you have. Try it and get back to me - Kernelloader - Browse /Kernelloader at SourceForge.net

As for swap, once you have configured the LiveDVD to be able to save configuration changes to usb using Mega Man's instructions, you can use the info in this post to setup the swap (changing hda to sda for usb) - http://psx-scene.com/forums/f167/rel...tml#post575326

Alright. I've got my self a key board. I managed to skip the network error. But i need a little more info on :

Mounting usb drive
Creating a swap partition
Saving changes to the memory stick after shutting the ps2 down.

In xterm i've managed to come till:

su
fdisk /dev/sda

never mind, i've managed to find the kernel parameter in configuration-txt
All i need to know is, How do i create a swap partition in a usb drive (sda2)? pls reply ASAP.
For creating it on the second partition, do i have to make a second partition in advance for it to be formatted to swap, or will it automatically divide the first partition into the second?
Because i need the first primary partition used for other purposes other than linux.

I tried the comands:

Edit: when the ps2 is connected to the router or a network bridge, is the ip address, username as well as password auto detected?

You need to start with Step 7 . This will delete all stuff on the USB memory stick.
You need to do the following step twice:
Create a partition with "n", "p", "1", "1", "+128M".

Change partition type with "t", "2", "82"

Could you give me more detail?

As the second partition was made by me through my computer but was unfromatted type.

And my third partition, i formatted it into ext2 through my computer.
In the configuration file, the kernel parameter's line is like this:

The Swap and the writedev aren't being recognized. Pls help.
