    I mounted the ps2linux_loop on /ps2linux folder in Ubuntu and then NFS-Shared this folder to the PSTwo.
    That way the PSTwo hat to only mount the nfs share and doesn't needs to mount the loop image too.
    There might be a better way to setup the swapfile - may be sharing it separately?
    Actually I only had to follow Peterdcrees' instructions, and here is a good tutorial of setting up NFS on Ubuntu: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=249889 , and sharing internet connection: http://www.ubuntugeek.com/sharing-in...in-ubuntu.html
    I also noticed that running Dillo, File browser and the text editor (the one with GUI) work at the same time without problems (just a little waiting when switching between them).

    compiled elinks (11.7 stable) console web browser with no hang ups or dependency problems. I can view my gmail account with it. Still can not post or read from this forum(cant submit password in house router web interface either) using dillo or elinks. Is there a protocol that these services are using that ps2 linux is not using?What could it be ? Java? Then went and enabled elinks web browser torrent client in new compile. In the features.conf just put yes instead of no and recompiled. Then tested a few .torrent files. It seemed to connect and start working then quickly dropped off to very little transfer. It seemed to be running okay just not pulling anything down. I even set the router to DMZ the ps2 ip. If any one has any suggestions they would be much appreciated. Thanks

    I am now trying to install MPlayer, following this:

    Put youtube-dl.py, youtube, youtubes scripts in /usr/local/bin.
    Add menu entry to $HOME/.fluxbox/menu --> fluxbox_menu_entry_for_youtube.txt. Modify to "youtubes" if you want streaming version of script.

    When surfing with Dillo and on a youtube video link, use the mouse (important) to highlight and copy the URL. You don't have to paste, just right click the desktop background and select the youtube script entry from the menu and it will download the video to your home directory and play it. No stutter here, although the audio/video synchronization may be slightly off depending on the video. Maybe the -autosync value needs tweaking. The streaming version "youtubes" has a buffer set by a sleep function (15 seconds now)...
    - So I make "/home/adent/packs/mp" directory, where I put SDL-1.2.13-ps2.tar.bz2, xclip-0.10-ps2.tar.bz2, mplayer-1.0rc2-ps2-sdl-only.tar.bz2 ,
    youtube-dl.py, youtube, youtubes. Then I "tar jxvf" the three tar.bz2 files and they get extracted without errors. Then I cd to the directory of SDL-1.2.13-ps2.tar.bz2 and "make install" , then cd to "xclip-0.10-ps2.tar.bz2" and "make install" and then cd to "mplayer-1.0rc2-ps2-sdl-only.tar.bz2" 's direcrory and "make install". Then I copyed youtube-dl.py, youtube, youtubes scripts to /usr/local/bin. And edited "/home/adent/.fluxbox/menu , adding the entry in fluxbox_menu_entry_for_youtube.txt.
    - The entry dows apair in the Fluxbox menu. Then I open Dillo (2.1.1) and go to youtube.com , on the url of the video, I right-mouse-click "Copy to clipboard"(or whatever it was) then right-click on desktop > Play YouTube Video - it opens terminal with "Cannot .... execv /usr/local/bin/uoutube" - So I manualy run it as root (su) and then I get " Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server" "Xlib: Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 key" "Error: Can't open display: :0.0". Then I looked for the error on the internet and found it and fixed it by "vim /root/.bashrc" - aded the line "export XAUTHORITY=/home/adent/.Xauthority" (I didn't tested exatcly this way - I used "xhost local:root" ) and then I edited the youtube script to "echo "URL= $url" (after the first line) and then when I run it as root it didn't dysplayed the error as before, and printed "URL= (the url of the video)" (so xclip works) but doesn't plays the video. I will give more detailed information when I have more time. Is there a way to fix this?

    First, as my "packaging" method is rudimentary, it sometimes fails to properly install unless you untar from the /home/adent directory. Because the configure scripts often incorporate hardcoded directory names into the Makefiles of each package as they are compiled, if you install from another directory as you have done, sometimes it will appear to install correctly but will have errors. Obviously xclip installed correctly though.

    Secondly, you should not have to run anything as root although if you do, you would also want to add "export DISPLAY=:0" to /root/.bashrc along with the export XAUTHORITY line you noted.

    You might want to verify that the various pieces are working by running "mplayer --help" which verifies that the program runs, "python -V" which should show the python version as 2.5.2, and also verify that the 3 youtube* scripts have "chmod 755" applied to them so they are executable.

    The dillo 2.1.1 package works better with psx-scene.com forums and allows posting. I am posting from my PS2 now. Grab the dillo-2.1.1-ps2.tar.bz2 from my 4shared directory.

    I don't have a good theory on the elinks torrent network problem, but I can believe it as I am working through network problems of my own with smb.

    Let me know if the new dillo works out better.

    I am now having the following problem: When the ps2linux starts an error message shows up about not being able to preform fsck on the root partition because it is not mounted read-only. When I disable the swap the problems disappears, but I am not sure of that. How can I verify that fsck works and will check and repair the file system if an error is found?
    I also tried a very complicated (at least for me) way: NFS-shared directory in Ubuntu is /ps2linux with sub directories "root"(ps2linux root directory) and ".swap" (with "swapfile" loop file) then in "init_smb": make directory /firstroot ,NFS mount of the ubuntu NFS share to /firstroot , mount --bind /firstroot/root /newroot (root has the extracted ps2linux_loop file ) , echo "losetup /dev/loop1 /oldroot/firstroot/.swap/swapfile" >> /newroot/etc/init.d/smbswap ( changed) , echo ... (the other commands that edit " /newroot/etc/init.d/smbswap) , and some other changes... It worked as far as that ps2linux GUI started swap was working and so on , but the error did showed up. (Which is logically what should happen because the swap is again accessed through the root file system. ) - In one word - definitely a bad idea.
    So I guess - the best way is to either have two NFS shares - one for root file system and one for swap or one share with two loop files on it (but I am not sure if having the PSTwo work with a root-file-system-loop-image is good idea.
    I just thought of another way - having fsck check the file system before setting up swap - this will require only one NFS share. The good thing about two NFS shares is that the one with the swapfile on it, can be for something when there are problems with the other (for example file transfer PC PS2).
    Will checking of a NFS -shared mount point of a loop image of an ext3 file system actually repair something on the ext3 file system(if a repair is needed) ?

    change this line in init_smb from:
    mount -t ext3 -o loop /smb/ps2linux_loop /newroot || error_exit
    to:
    mount -t ext3 -o ro,loop /smb/ps2linux_loop /newroot || error_exit

    I will test this today to verify.

    I am sorry for the misunderstanding - the root file system on a loop image works fine, however when the PSTwo uses a NFS shared folder as a loop which contains a swapfile there the error occurs. I think this is because of that the swap is setup before running fsck on the root partition. - When I disable the swap, there is no error.

    Did you modify (by replacing with NFS-specific commands) /etc/init.d/smbswap? This is called by /etc/init.d/checkroot.sh. In the case of NFS, you would want to change this to use the nfs mount. I ran into a similar problem when trying to get the swap to work on smb mounted ps2-linux and this is where I fixed it so that it is BEFORE the root is mounted rw. Maybe it should be renamed to netswap and modified to accomodate both? Or maybe nfsswap and the call as an if-then in /etc/init.d/checkroot.sh to accomodate either?

    I have placed the swapfile into the root (/) directory of the ps2linux_loop image. It is mounted from there. This is what caused the problem. When I switched the the places of root file system checking and swap mounting (in /etc/init.d/checkroot.sh) the error didn't showed up, but according to the "checkroot.sh", what I have done will make checking of the file system very time consuming, so I will do as you suggested. (and undo the changes I made to "checkroot.sh")

    - Yes I agree. I think it is best to only change the name and leave the rest. - Because the whole content of the file is written to it by the init_smb script - so I think that in the beginning of the file a case statement should be added - something like: "For SMB boot type S , for NFS boot type N : " which will choose between two different parts of the file ( each one to write different lines to the smbmount file. (I probably didn't explained correctly. In a day or two I will post the content of init_smb.)
