    @wisi

    Ubuntu is not on a virtual machine.
    Ok. I do know that sometimes default route is not correct (just a general linux thing to check). netstat -r and ping from local hosts on the subnet works if you have a router and can have more than the PS2 connected to your local network at a time.

    When running PS2 Network Access disk both static network configuration and automatic configuration (dhcp) pass the tests and online games work(using the same hardware configuration as now). Which leads me to believe that I must be configuring kernelloader incorrectly.

    You noted that you can get the ps2-linux-smb version working enough to start an xterm. From there you can check the "netstat -r" to see your routes. As an example of a working ps2-linux-smb configuration I run a bridge from subnet 192.168.2.0 (with PS2 192.168.2.11 and bridge 192.168.2.1/192.168.0.2) to the 192.168.0.1 gateway which connects to cable modem to internet.
    So netstat -r shows:
    dest gateway genmask flags
    192.168.2.0 * 255.255.255.0 U
    default 192.168.2.1 0.0.0.0 UG

    For yours, you would need to setup a software bridge on Windows XP (link noted earlier) to have the PS2 use the Windows PC as a gateway (I think).

    For sound on v7 and lower versions - go to modules menu and enable (check box) ROM1:LIBSD and ROM1:SDRDRV

    Then select Boot in kernelloader and I think it will work for you. If it does, you can save this configuration under the File menu, "Save".
    Hey and thank you so much for the support. I am very excited about the booting. But when I am editing the kernal parameters i try and make another luine for root=/dev/hda2 ro ide=nodma idebus=66 but when I hit enter it goes back. Sorry for the silly question but do I need a line break there or just a space?

    10 min later... I did it with a space and it came to the command prompt looking window. It went through a bunch of stuff really fast and then stopped at "memory card 00 isn't exist
    ? panic: ufs: unable to mount root on 03:00"

    Im not sure if perhaps I didnt install it correctly from the get go or what.

    Just a space, no line breaks. Enter it like one long line and it will automatically wrap to fit the entry window. When you hit return, the complete entry will be stored.

    then stopped at "memory card 00 isn't exist
    I think you forgot to clear out the initrd entry in kernelloader. You must have NO initrd selected to boot off of the hard drive.

    @deba5er

    Now i get a bit further and with less errors thanks to your root=/dev/hda2 ro ide=nodma idebus=66

    However it loads till dma setup: bind error 1, use P10

    Not sure what that means.

    EDIT: If i leave it on that screen prompt looking for about 5 min then it all of a sudden goes to BSOD.

    This is a normal message. Kernelloader is not DMA capable at this time with the kernels we have (or am I mistaken, Mega Man?)

    Are you NTSC or PAL or other? What you call BSOD might be the X-Windows starting up in NTSC but your TV cannot recognize it? This can be changed in the /usr/local/bin/win3 script. You can try to hit "<CONTROL> C" before it gets to the part where it goes to BSOD, and if you get a $ prompt then you can "su", enter the password "changeme", then "vi /usr/local/bin/win3". vi is a hard to use program, so if you move the cursor over the first letter in "ntsc" you can hit "c" "w" to change the word, then enter "pal" for PAL and "<Escape>" to get out of word change mode, and ":wq!" to write and quit.

    @ps2stuff

    but is there a way to enable sound on the v12 slim
    Yes, if you have the Run Time Environment modules from the PS2-Linux kit. However, the kits are rare and expensive these days, and Sony owns this code. If you want to ask sarahe of Sony to release the RTE binaries for free, post on this forum - http://playstation2-linux.com/forum/...p?msg_id=51025

    I doubt Sony will do this, but it didn't seem like it would hurt to ask.

    Otherwise, I can't get sound to work with the free modules on any console newer than version 7. (My version 9 does not work without RTE). Mega Man may be able to do this in the future, but I'm not sure.

    Here is the [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qPUQnYJrxM"]video[/ame]

    It hangs at dma setup: bind error 1, use PI0 for about 5 - 10 min then screen goes black. I am NTSC so it shouldnt be that problem right?

    EDIT: I tried the ctrl+c thing and realized it is just a screensaver. It is still hanging at the bind error 1, use PI0
