Hello all,

here i am (again(sorry !)) with the following possibel setup :

ps2 scph-770004

pxe boot to linux

linux contains :

browser supporting javascript , flash , etc

rdesktop to connect to remote desktop pc

prefereably either persistent on usb thumb or via network on the pc that provides the pxe boot.

also i dont know if the linux can detect a wirelless mouse/keyboard set ? if that's the case that would be so awesome !

if all this goals can be done with what's for hand now i'll be a happy guy.

you dont need to spoonfeed me but a push in the right direction would be a great help !

linux expirience : i can install services like ftp / samba / http server etc but compiling my own kernel is a no go (or could be with a lot of help )

I've only seen SMB and NFS boot for PS2-Linux on Slim. USB boot does not work (corrupts). Firefox (old version only) runs so slowly that it is tough to use. Dillo runs quickly but does not work with all webpages. I tried hard but could not get gnash to compile (for flash plugin). I would love to get gnash working but I would also need a lightweight browser (other than dillo) to couple it with. Firefox is too heavy. Dillo has javascript as a low priority future implementation and will likely never have it working. Rdesktop (latest) compiles and works great. It is quick and quite usable. Logitech wireless keyboard/mice combos seem to work well (including bluetooth dongle versions). The EX-110 and MX5500 both work perfectly.

i've found a thread on ps2dev that mounts an nfs share as filesystem also a swap can be made so that would solve the linux part since it's then persistent and would be faster then livedvd .
if smb share mount is possible (not the loop fs type) could you give me the steps how to

the only thing i need to solve is figure out what the minimum is and strip down your linux so it only has the neccessary modules loaded for network usb and is there a way to set the hardware so it doesnt re-detect the hardware everytime it boots (hence google OS) , also the only thing that would be running is rdesktop. because i'm thinking about just using it as an thin client thus use browser etc on my pc.

so a write-up :

i'll try a vmware linux that has nfs share so i would have an working linux

i'll then try to install the package rdesktop from 4shared directory.

if all goes well (i doubt it) i would then need the fastest way to boot into linux.

live dvd is best for slim ps2, just run ssh server on your linux computer and then connect there from ps2 from xterm using 'ssh -X -Y' command. Then you can run X apps like wine on your computer thru ssh from your ps2 and you will see graphical output on ps2

thanks for you idea on how to use my ps2 in such a way.

altho it's not what i've had in mind.

the sole purpose that i want rdesktop on ps2 , is so i dont have to go upstairs in my little room on my little screen ^^ , instead i want to be in the couch in front of a big screen.

if i can network boot smb : great ! , if it only can boot from nfs : fine .

if rdesktop can be fairly easly installed an configured. i'm happy

and i have windows (sadly), so (if smb doesnt work) ill need to vmware a linux with nfs share in order to get linux to boot off network , secondly install rdesktop.

could someone give me the steps or a tutorial or a piece of paper with toughts of it ?

whatever get's the job done to boot from smb and configure rdesktop , i'll take it
