I am 'rather' back to this project. :)
What is its current status - and more specifically - is there something for testing?
Currently I can test on SCPH-79004 and SCPH-30003. On Ubuntu, kernel 2.6 successfully compiles (so I can make changes to it). :)
The CDVD driver is the only missing driver to get the same status as the kernel 2.4.
There is still stuff which can be optimized. Some stuff is too slow. The source code includes the marker TBD on stuff which needs to be done. Most stuff can be optimized in the software running on the kernel.
I ported the old sound driver to the new kernel, but I didn't get an undisturbed sound. I think the player was too slow. Can you check whether this is really caused by the player or the sound driver? Can you try different players? I think a player from BlackRhino should work without problems.
I decided firstly to try the old blackrhino loop image I was using with kernel 2.4 on 2.6. It loads fine, but there are some problems with the Xserver - I couldn't get it to work. Mplayer, xmms, are also not starting so I will now install the new debian distro. I am having problems connecting to the debian repository... and also found this - [SECURITY] [DSA 2360-1] Two month advance notification for upcoming end-of-life for Debian oldstable ...
Edit: In order to attempt to fix things, I used a direct NFS boot (from KL menu) without initrd. Stability of the connection has improved - no segmentation faults (for now), but I have to remount the root fs to rw every time it gets mountedq by doing "mount -o remount rw /". In "/etc/fstab" root is mounted rw, but no matter how I change the option - ro/rw/<without> it still doesn't want to mount it rw... May be there is something in the kernel parameter I am missing... (KernelLoader 2.6)
Edit2: Good news is that in mplayer with oss audio driver sound seems to work just fine :) (RTE sound modules on SCPH-79004). Can't get alsa to work with it thew...
A debian 5.0 image can be downloaded from sourceforge. This is described in http://freefr.dl.sourceforge.net/pro....6_test_v8.txt
It also tells how to change the apt sources. There is an server for the old files.
There is a kernel parameter "rw". This should make the rootfs writeable. I think your fstab is not correct.
Did you use mplayer from BlackRhino for testing?
ALSA is not supported.
I used the mplayer from the debian 6 repository.
I tried adding the "rw" parameter, but it didn't helped, now the previous problems with the fstab file seem to be solved so I'll try again and edit this post with the result.

The last time I tried to install Debian 6, there was something like an endless loop in the net installer.
I unpacked the Debian 5 archive on a loop file, booted it on the PSTwo and changed the apt sources to those of sqweeze then apt-get update; apt-get install dpkg aptitude apt ; then apt-get dist-upgrade. - HowTo: Upgrade Debian 5.0 (Lenny) To Debian 6.0 (Squeeze)
Only big problem was the error that the "mount" package had to be updated which meant killing the nfs client :D but to my surprise it updated just fine on its own using apt-get...
By the way - how do I setup ps2link debug in kernelloader so I can see what is going on while the kernel is being loaded - is it meant to work "outside" kernelloader?
Currently it hangs at "Started all modules" and in XLink on the PC-side there is information which modules have been loaded but it goes no further.

The default SBIOS is configured to callback instead of shared which will use ps2link. In callback mode the SBIOS messages will be printed with printk in the Linux kernel. When you load the eedebug.irx module, you can see IOP messages in the kernel log. The shared mode is what you want to use. The current version of kernelloader in CVS detects the sharedmem.irx module and will switch from callback to shared mode. This will work with ps2link. Then you can see all kernel messages in ps2link, but you don't have any input device (i.e. no keyboard). The offical kernelloader 2.7 will include the auto-detect feature.
The kernelloader source includes a buildtoolchain.sh script which makes it easier to build the required stuff for kernelloader.

I successfully installed mips64r5900el-toolchain in mips64el fedora12! And it ready to be used as addition of ps2 processor for native compiler. Actually, i guess, it builds a program, that launch only on 64-bit mips64el-linux, run on ps2... No way to try my guess.
I have disabled selinux and still get an error permission denied.
No way to precompile xfree and emulators as i wanted because test programs while configuring and compiling which not launch - permission denied.
All ready to face new 64-bit n32 ps2linux as fedora core 12! Except...
I have no even ideas about what i need to make working 64-bit kernel-2.6.35.4...

Where could the problem be? (Using KL2.7 from CVS)
Another issue is the error: "The memory region end address 0x00010280 of SBIOS is after 0x00010000".
Disabling "TGE SBIOS for New Modules" "fixes" the problem... but I cannot understand what is causing it or what can solve it.
I am attaching ps2link_1.46 because it is rather hard to find and someone might need it in future. (LaunchELF 4.42b doesn't seem to work with ps2client or Xlink...)
