    hi,

i recently installed bb-nav(0.32) on my pal SCPH-50004(only soft modded, original hdd) ps2, it boots fine with
my moded rte disc and kloader(bootet with ulaunch) but i have no sound and cant boot my original discs.
are there any "fixes" for this? or is this 'cause a "corupt" installation?
any settings to change on kloader?

    thanks, richard

Kernelloader doesn't enable the sound modules automatically on a SCPH-50004, because the modules in the ROM of this version are not compatible. Previous PS2 models don't have this problem (except for the first ones). You need to copy the sound modules from the RTE disc to mc0:/kloader/ .
There is an RTE copy menu included in kernelloader. This works with the RTE disc from the offical Sony Linux. I don't know if this works with the bb-nav disc. Just insert the RTE disc and a memory card in slot 1. Then select menu entry "Copy RTE modules". The following modules are needed:
    - sdrdrv.irx
    - libsd.irx
You need to enable these modules in the kernel loader config menu. There are two entries for each module, you need to choose the one whith the correct capitalisation. If you use the copy menu, you need to select the one with the small letters (mc0:kloader/libsd.irx and mc0:kloader/sdrdrv.irx).

well thanks for the hint, just tried it but it didnt work'd
and in the meantime i also noticed i can't acces my memory cards
(but they are shown at the save manager, it just falls back to the memory card selection if i select a memory card) either,
    and cant start audio cd's
(stays at 00:00 all the time but recognizes the disc as audio cd)
even though i could not listen to since audio is not working.
but installed games are shown in the game channel, and i'am unable to boot
my own "ulaunch" partition(just black screen) which on the other side boots fine from the hdd-osd.

i would like to get it working since i like it much better then the hdd-osd i dont care about the online stuff :/
or perhaps any special kernel needed?

i'm just using the one from the "p2lboot" folder from the __system partition which gets intalled from bb-nav copied to usb
    with the arguments: crtmode=pal root=/dev/hda1 graphics CONSOLE = /dev/null

As far as I can see the original Sony Linux doesn't include support for reading CD audio. This feature must be added to the SBIOS. The SBIOS in kernelloader doesn't include support for CDDA read function, but it can be activated in the source code. There seems to be some differences between Sony Linux and the BB navigator.
The download section of kernelloader include Linux kernels which are optimised for kernelloader. Maybe vmlinux_fat_and_slim_v4.gz is working better, but I don't know which kernel version is used in your BB navigator version.
I don't know how the uLaunch partition stuff is working, but there is no support for starting PS2 applications from Linux side in SBIOS or the Linux kernels I saw.
To be able to get it working, I need to analyse the BB navigator stuff. I think most stuff is GPL and can be legally copied over the internet. Is the source code for the Linux kernel on the disc? This is GPL and must be provided.

    hi mega man,

the bb-navigator acts as a replacmeant for the osd which auto boots from
the hdd (atleast on jap units as the encryptet launcher on the
"__system/p2lboot/osdboot.elf is only bootable from a jap unit).
since the release of the hdd-osd you can launch apps from the browser
which are application partitions(partitions that begin with "pp") but not every game/app is bootable that way and since bb-navigator is more like an update
to that it dose support it also. so to bypass that encryption from "osdboot.elf", on a pal
or ntsc-u/c unit you have to use the rte(or kloader) to boot bb-navigator.

the kernel that comes with bb-navigator is available from the
bb-navigator disc, and i think on the sony website, but i don't know if they
made any special changes to it for the installed version on the ps2 hdd.

i noticed if i use kloader 2.0 whith parameter "crtmode = pal" bb-navigator is
just normal in colour, but if i use kloader 2.1, 2.2 whith the same parameter
it is only displayed in ntsc same goes for the rte, b/w.

    btw. the kernel i used
was the one installed from bb-navigator in __system/p2lboot/ called vmlinux which should be the one you can download from sonys website.
i used some kernels that were available from the kloaders
sourceforge page, but they either didn't work for bb-navi or just had the same
problems. so it could also has somethin to do with the 50k series?
but sony sells/sold bb-navi kits together with the 50k in japan as i remember
    correctly.

    so to conclude:

    sound dosent work at all

memory card dosent work properly(the memory card is shown but cant be accessed)

music cd's dont work properly(cd's are shown as music cd's but cant be played)

launching games from cd/dvd dosent work properly(discs are shown as games but cant be launched, stucks at a black screen after launch)

launching partitions dosent work properly(same as disc based games)

and since kloader 2.1 pal mode dosent work anymore with the same parameter

    the sources:
    http://www.sony.net/Products/Linux/O...Navigator.html

but afterall i'm not quite sure if its just 'cause a corrupt installation on my side, but on the other end i tryd a reinstall and still the same issuse.
i uess it just would be better to hack that osdboot file lol but i'm no hacker or somethung like that, just keen to experiment

i think l_oliveira could probably explain it much better
and maybe knows a answer to this lol

PSBBN uses a custom version of RTE. Sound system used on it's kernel is *completely different* from what's on the PS2 linux RTE.

PSBBN sucks anyway. It's slow, crappy and no longer supported (all the cool stuff like Hudson Channel are long gone now and you would never be able to visit it without passing the DNAS check anyway.) so wasting HDD space with PSBBN now is just silly.

For curiosity sake it's understandable but well, like I said PSBBN is dead.

    thanks for answer,

today i deleted all the "linux" partitions from psbbn from my harddrive as i more or less gave up on it.
well indeed the online stuff is dead, but it wasn't that, that i was interessted in. it wasn't so "simple" as the osd
and thats what i liked about it you could "dive" in it and navigate through menus and stuff, but yes it was pretty slow
and took some time to boot. i think best way would be to get a jap unit for it but then again i would only like to
get a 10k, 15k or 18k with hdd and i think these units are not that easy to come by especially whith the hdd.

but as you said it uses a different sound system, dose it also use different
systems for launching apps/games from cd/dvd/hdd? and accessing
    memory-cards?
    since that didnt workd also.

Launching won't work because PSBBN checks throughly an title before launching so even if you place right/valid headers and a bootalble KELF on a self made partition PSBBN will refuse to launch it. I believe it uses an white list policy because things worked once I faked the data from an existing title I know the IDs for. Therefore, PSBBN is not only cumbersome, but it's also awkward as an launcher. If the online stuff were still up it would be worth the time as stuff like the Hudson Channel was just awesome.

    Oh well...

@unclejun thanks for the links, i will deffintly take a carefull look at that site
atleast if its possible for me as german to register there

@l_oliveira oh well so there is really no point to get it working if you cant launch anything besides that stuff on the "white list". so someone would need
to code a open-source replacmeant based on blackrhino? :P which could allow
    launching homebrew and selfmade partitions?
but i think no one would lol just too much work.

a bit offtopic, is there a way that free mc boot dosent skip the sony license
screen when launching a elf from memory card on bootup? so it "looks" more
normal on a pal console when booting hdd-osd ^^
or would it require coding a new launcher for that?
