    Well, I have a PS2 (The Normal one) with the network and hard drive Caddy?

    Im wanting to stream music and mainly films off my home server too it. The only way i could think of doing this was with Linux and installing VLC. I'm not sure its going to work that's why i felt i could be pointed in the right direction on this forum.

    My PS2 Isn't modded or chipped. And i would be nice to not have to spend money to get this too work.

    Iv found this on my travels around the net trying to find out how to do it and i wondered if its aloud of bull or it could work? http://www.ehow.com/how_6855246_make-ps2-boot-disc.html

    you will need to use SMS

    then you need FMCB to run backups and Homebrew see link above about FMCB Guide

    * and if its your second question about Linux then i dont know because i never tried or used Linux

    @amp2006:
    I'm pretty sure that he did mean a fat PS2, and that his phrase "network and hard drive Caddy" in fact refers to the Network Adaptor, with its HDD interface.

    In any case the advise you gave should send him in the right direction, as SMS is without any doubt the best PS2 media player available, especially for its network support with SMB fileshare access. And FMCB is of course the best homebrew boot system, so he should be all set once he gets that installed.

    That description appears to be completely bogus.

    They describe simple ripping of an ISO and then directly burning that ISO to a new disc, as creation of a new 'Boot Disc", which is total nonsense. Such a copy can only boot on a console with a modchip, or by special disc-swapping methods.

    But once you have FMCB installed you can do something almost like that, to good effect.

    The difference is that you would then use the ESR patcher program to patch the ripped ISO file before burning it, and then the PS2 mechacon will allow it to be read even though it is a burned copy, since the patch makes it appear to be a DVD video disc, which the console does allow access to even on a burned DVD-R disc. And with FMCB invoking the ESR driver automatically for such discs, that ESR driver then ensures that the game is booted as a normal game disc, even though the mechacon keeps 'thinking' that it is a movie.

    And that's how unmodified consoles can use burned DVD-R game backups without any major effort (no swapping).

    Best regards: dlanor
