archicharmer presents Linux Tool Kit(SMB). Everyone is Welcome.”Use it, Improve it and Pass it on to others”...
Hello Everyone! Today is a very special day. I talked to archicharmer and he said to me that this is time for it.
Actually archicharmer due to its life obligations has left us for quite some time and it is really disappointment to me and I am sure for majority of others because he understands a lot in Linux, and if not his wish to explore the world of Linux for PS2—probably nothing of it could have happened.
I want to believe that one day archicharmer will appear again on PSX-Scene and his appearance will be so bright as his work.
The last thing that archicharmer told me about his work was this:--”Use it, Improve it and Pass it on to others”...
So everyone is Welcome to Contribute to,Develop it, Use and Pass On to others archicharmers project.
Does not matter who you are—the usual user, developer—you are welcome to join the party.
Since the very beginning fat ps2 users had some luck –if they could have wish to run Linux on their ps2—they could do it very simply.
To the contrary –users of ps2 slim had only problems if they would decide to do the same thing.
But as was sang in one song--”Things will never be the same again”---so here on ps2 Linux scene things will never be the same again.
Linux Tool Kit----”Linux Distribution itself”--has GPL License. So it unties our hands to do with it everything we want.
Time has passed and till the moment—everyone thought that if you want to run Linux Tool Kit---you can do it only on Fat PS2. But such conclusion as it appears now was completely wrong in its nature.
I do not know how spent their time during all those years in their basements hackers involved in ps2 scene---but I know for sure how archicharmer spent some short time during his project development for his slim PS2.
He was concentrated on Linux Tool Kit. Actually I also helped him to some extent, but the major work was done by him.
And now I am ready to present you with Linux Tool Kit as LOOP file to run it through SMB.
The method to run it is based on Deba5er s method.
So it means that you have at first to set up SMB accordingly to Deba5er s method,
for that go to start [PS2] and do the best you can in order to do that.
Then replace original Deba5er Linux_loop with one “Created by archicharmer” and taken from here:
MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service
As Linux Kernel use--------vmlinux_fat_and_slim_v4.gz--------which can be downloaded here:
As Initial Ram Disc use--------initrd.usb2.smb.gz--------which you can get from here:
You will need to use compatible keyboard with Linux Tool Kit in order to use it.
During loading press “i” and for the first question about network answer “n” .
For the rest of questions press “Enter”.
If you will have an error “segmentation fault”---reload the Linux and try one more time.
if you want to see “GNOME”--press startx . You will need usb-mouse.
Of course it needs to be improved to further become stable 100%, but as a concept to be achieved by Linux Enthusiast during such a short period of time –is amazing.
Swap file is used the same from Deba5er.
It has to be mounted manually. To do that you need when already loaded Linux Tool Kit type this:
losetup /path to/swap
swapon loop? Where ? --number of loop where just now was mounted swap
How was created Linux Tool Kit LOOP file?
From newly installation of Linux Tool Kit on Fat PS2 –was created HDD-image with help of Acronis.
Then again with help of acronis the image was recorded to USB-HDD. In Linux the “Image” was mounted and compressed with tar .
Then was mounted loop from Deba5er---everything was deleted from it.
Image of PS2 Linux Tool Kit was uncompressed to empty Deba5er loop.
Here is how to install rpm packets : rpm -i /path to/packet.rpm
Well guys I know that Linux Tool Kit trough SMB needs to be improved –but at least we have something now---FAT and SLIM can now run Linux Tool Kit.
