Why ESR doesn't work for me ?
Why ESR doesn't work for me ? –
10-02-2008,01:15 PM
30001 v4 NTSC
GAME : Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 PAL (Winning Eleven 2008) SLES_549.13
DVD-R (Sony) speed 2x
The game should be compatable but I can't play it.
I used both updated ESR but got same result. It flashed by blue colour, then red, finally pink(magenta) colour, then nothing changed.
It shows the disc content by using uLaunchElf 's cdfs.
Can anyone help ?
Thanks

You shouldn't burn lower than 4x for sure.
Are you using the ESR beta r9b dvdv direct.elf to load the backup?

I had problems with low burn speed before, with the same symptoms. Just reburn it at 8x (what I use) or higher. Should work fine then.

It should burn over 4x ?
yes I used both r9a, r9b & memcard version.
I put them all in uLanucgelf and tried each one
any meanings of the flash colour ?

The flash colors are normal for you too see after ESR loads.
Explanation of each version from ESR Public Beta thead:
"I'm attaching set of three applications. One is intended for launching games directly from dvd (but can also launch homebrew apps from DVDV discs, just SYSTEM.CNF and proper elf is needed) - "dvd direct" version . The other is to launch elf files in either mcx:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF or mcx:/B?DATA-SYSTEM/BOOT.ELF - "mcard" version. The third is "dvd direct off" version, which is almost the same as the "dvd direct" but will disable ESR after first full successful IOP reset (think about it as "mode 3" in hdloader. All should have similar compatibility (with obvious limitations for "off" version)."
Yes burn it at 4x speed first, if it works great. If not then try higher.

Thanks to all
But everyone says it should use low speed to burn ps2 backups, maybe for my old machine, it should use a higher speed. Anyway, let me try tomorrow.

Yes and low speed is 4x. Nothing ever lower unless its DL (dual Layer) at 2.4x speed.
That is an old rule but still remains the same to nothing lower.
Burners and disks are now faster speed, so with good media and burner a lot of people are burning at 8x and faster.

I burn at 8x with crap or midgrade media and never have trouble. I think it could possibly be a laser issue.

I am not sure if it is the laser issue. Actually, my ps2 is modded, it can play pirated disc, but can't play backups !! (very strange)It does not seem to the laser problem. All the backups can't be played burned by 2x. Maybe I try again to burn by 4x or higher and post the result here.

At risk of belaboring old news, I must repeat the question windrider42 asked you earlier, since you have still not answered it in any of your subsequent posts.
Have you tried the file named "ESR beta r9b dvdv direct.elf", which is intended for launching backup game discs
Or have you only tried the file named "ESR beta r9b mcard.elf", which is not intended for launching game discs at all.
That elf is only intended to start your homebrew BOOT.ELF file, with the ability to read ESR-patched burned discs.
We know that you have used the 'mcard' variant, since you did confirm that in post#4, and we know that it works too, since you said in post#1:
It shows the disc content by using uLaunchElf 's cdfs
So far, so good. If that really is true, so you can see the content of ESR-patched DVDV discs in uLaunchELF after running the 'mcard' ESR elf, then ESR does work with those discs on your console, or you would see no content at all for those discs in uLaunchELF.
But you have not once confirmed if you ever tried launching the ESR elfs intended for game launching, so in your next post, please mention explicitly the full filename of the elf that fails to launch your games.
Btw:
A pirated disc and a backup disc are made in exactly the same way. The only difference making a copied disc be considered a pirate copy is that the user does not own a legally bought original of this game. There is absolutely not one byte of difference between a pirate copy and a legal backup of the same game. (I'm here speaking of normal backups, not those patched for use with ESR.)
So your statement that your modchip can run pirate copies but not backups is nonsense, as there is no difference between the two. But it may still be true that you can't make backup ISOs yourself that work properly, so that only the pirated ones made by others do work for you. The fault then lies in how you attempt to make your backups, and probably in your choice of tools for doing it. (I always extract the ISOs with 'DVD Decrypter' myself.)
Note also that a backup that did not work unpatched with modchip can also not be expected to work after patching it and trying to boot it with ESR. The faults that prevented the unpatched backup from working will still be present when the disc is patched and used with ESR, so it will not miraculously start working then either.
Best regards: dlanor
