I've been backing up my games for a long time now using FreeMcBoot.
Up until recently I've had no problems. I was burning games and playing them fine until my portable HP driver died.
I just purchased a new laptop with a Pioneer drive.
Here's the problem, none of the games I burn are working. I get UNKNOWN MEDIA IN DRIVE So far I've:
adjusted the white ticker (It works fine with both DVD+R and DVD-R)
cleaned the laser
tested ESR GUI and .ELF
Ive burned multiple games and tested them but none of them work.
Sony DVD+R at 2.4x, 4x, and 8x on ImgBurn
Sony DVD-R at 2.4x, 4x, and 8x
That's a waste of quite a few dvds.
The burns don't work on my PS2 but run on my computer just fine.
All of my older games burned at the same speeds on the same media work just fine.
I'm all out of ideas. Any clever ones people? Thanks.
I've noticed, that many PS2s have issues when reading very low disc sectors... And since the patched UDF DVD Video structure is at lower sectors, that may be it (if the laser is worn out, it might even read valid DVD Video disc, but won't recognize the ESR Patched one... If it did, it would most likely work just fine, but since the mechacon doesn't recognize it as DVD Video, there is nothing that ESR can do about it).
maybe this a bit of topic, ffgriever can u help guiding me converting some of cd to dvd ps2 games that need elf or lba editing?
Are you sure its the laser? It reads every kind of disc just fine; both validated and backups. The problem is that none of the new backups are reading properly. The old ones still work fine.
Then maybe your burner's laser is worn out? If everything worked before on the same setup and you've been patching the games the exact same way, then it seems to be a valid conclusion. Also, you might want to try a different disc brand. There are whole batches of discs that can be crap, even if usually the brand is ok. Oh, and I never use Sony discs. Either my burners do not like it or the discs sold here are of bad quality. The burns on sony discs are always unacceptable for me (everything works, sure, but that's not enough ).
Thanks a bunch. Ill give another brand a try if when I got the time. If all else fails, oh well. Haha!
