I'm sorry, I was in a rush to get to a chiropractic appointment. Yes, I have a slimline PS2, and I use FMCB to start it all up. I got CB to launch off of my flash drive, though, using another ELF because it turns out the ELF I had originally was corrupted somehow. It is also very easy for me to determine when it is done loading, because my TV flashes lol.

Anyway, now I'm having a problem with the loading the game after I select cheats. I have it set to load up ESR, and it flashes the colors, but then it goes black and never loads. I left it on for over an hour, and still nothing. When I do not have codes set, it boots fine, otherwise no-go.

So I take it that this confirms my guess that it was the USB device still being connected that caused the freezing you complained of in your previous post. The one where you said that CB didn't start. Right ?

I see two possible reasons for this.

Case 1:
The elf launcher patched into CodeBreaker had to be rather primitive, so it is not guaranteed to handle every elf. I have never used it to directly launch the ESR elf myself, and it is possible that there is some incompatibility in that elf launch method that may cause it to fail. The obvious solution is to launch a program guaranteed to work, such as uLaunchELF, or the program ffgriever made called "CB_launch.elf" which simply relaunches FMCB. You can then launch ESR either from FMCB or from uLE in order to start the game.

Case 2:
If your cheat codes contain an inappropriate master code, such as those that begin with an "F" instead of a "9", then those cheats will never work with the patched CodeBreaker. It only works properly for master codes that begin with a "9". (And here I'm talking of normal "raw" cheat codes, no CB-specific stuff and no encryption of any kind.) For such cases you need to find a different master code to use instead of the one which cannot work.

You are of course correct.

I just tend to associate anything related to the CodeBreaker patch with ffgriever, since he made the patcher for it, but it is quite true that the CB_launch program was made by Jimmi.

A simple case of confusing one genius with another :lol:

That tiny prog is hardly representative of jimmi's real skills, though quite useful.
And I'd never call the idea 'whacked' considering how useful it has been for me.

No, my CB ELF was just not working. I used a different one and it worked no problem, I already knew that I had to take out the USB.

I have used it already to launch ESR, and through that, the game itself. My problem is that it will only work when I have no cheats selected.

I also tried it with uLE, which was my second attempt. My first was with the CB_launch.elf, in which case it took me directly to HDLoader, unless the ELF I was using was modified. I tried to eliminate all variables that I could.

No. CodeBreaker itself should still be able to use encrypted codes (there are some in its internal database too). But since I never use encryption myself I can not guarantee anything about working master codes for encrypted use.

But non-encrypted CodeBreaker codes always have the same initial character as non-encrypted raw codes, so such codes should work if the master code begins with "9", though I never use this CodeBreaker-specific code type either.

Raw codes are the only way to go when you want to be able to exchange codes with others (possibly using other cheat engines even), so I use no other kind.

And this also makes it much easier to work with the codes, since address offsets and hex constants are always directly visible in raw cheat codes, instead of having their digits scrambled as in the CodeBreaker-specific formats.

Yeah, I generally use raw codes too, but this was my first time trying the CB ELF (I normally use a swapmagic 3.8 elf for my codes, but it has stopped working on me) so I am pretty much clueless.

Well, hopefully we've managed to clarify the usage for you a little. So now all you have to do is to chase down suitable master codes for any of your cheat sets that still only have master codes beginning with "F". And whenever you find such a master code for the same game that does begin with a "9" you simply use it as replacement for the old master code.

Note that this problem only applies to the master code of each game set, as all other cheat codes in each game set should remain unaffected.
