Use Codebreaker 9.3 with HDLoader/ESR Games!

Thanks for the reply guys, i can understand the behavior of the boot pattern better by reading your answers. I think i have the correct file structure as my BOOT/ folder on my MC contains BOOT.ELF, CD_launch.elf, BOOT.ico and ico.sys.

it was a downloaded version of CB supposedly patched as it was saying in the .txt that came along with it. but i think its safe for me to assume that it was not patched for the exact purpose im trying to achieve but was patched to load from hdd0:/ instead of off the DVDV... hmm actually let me paste the exact structure for you before i actually attempt to re-patch the cB manually in case i had a mistake somewhere; it is as follow:

"ROOT on MC"
../
BAEXEC-SYSTEM/ (there is a bunch of .elf in this folder ex. 05d100.elf ...)
BESLES-00000 MP/ (there is BOOT-FREE-OSD.ELF, RUNME.ELF, ico.sys and mcp.ico)
BOOT/ (there is BOOT.ELF, CD_launch.elf, BOOT.ico and icon.sys)
PCB/ there is files for CB database ..if im not mistaken cheat, config...)
SYS-CONF/ (there is FMCB.cfg, FREEMCO.cnf, icon.sys, sysconf.ico, USBD.irx and USBHDFSD.irx.

(i made sure to paste all file names + extensions as is, caps and small char)


now i know i installed two ways of booting independently from MC. i installed first to a formated MC this Free OsDatel Boot MC V1.0 (to flash the MC using HDProject--McFlasher.elf ) and then UlaunchELF. at first after installing OsDatel the ps2 booted right away in the file browser of Ule without taking no action or without seeing any slpash screen, but then after installing Ule i could see the FREE MCboot splash screen and had to hold R1 for the browser to load (and it is still how it boots now)

cause i didnt understand exactly if i needed both or just one or the other (this stuff is a bit complicated for a neewbie like me :P) so ...with all that info i wrote, do you guys think i need to repatch CB manually or i should only change the file's structure in order for it to first boot in Ule then -> CB -> enter my cheat -> and then boot off the dvdv all this without using the USB, only MC ?

Your help is greatly appreciated since i couldnt have got this far in my understanding of all this without you help and previous post / tutorials.

awww lol, i know im 2x posting here but i didnt want to modify last post because ...i actually looked closer at what i wrote while thinking about how to fix my issue and i noticed ......(you probably already saw that but ..) i had named the CB_launch.elf file as CD_launch .elf heh

Would som1 bitch slap me plz :P

ok so i kinda want to ask somthing else tho :S ....there is no codebreaker codes for Persona 3 fes ? i only saw for persona 3 and they dont work


Is there any1 that knows about the one for FES by chance ?

I'd like to add that I use WinHEX to edit my paths, like if I move my CB_launch.elf or if I want to rename it, I just type in the new path that the Codebreaker.elf is.

You don't need to use a japanese CodeBreaker program to cheat in a japanese game.

All you need is a list of the cheat codes (including 'master code' == 'enable code') required for that particular japanese game, either in normal 'raw' format or in some other cheater format that you can convert to 'raw'. Then you define a new game entry in CodeBreaker and enter those codes for it. I've done this a lot in order to use the US CodeBreaker for several european game releases, and even with a few japanese ones (eg: FFX International == SLPS-25088).

CodeBreaker doesn't care what region a game is, as the region checking is normally done by the console, and that checking is bypassed when using ESR or HDLoader.

It could be a good idea use the knowledge obtained here in order to change the .ELF file from "Xploder HDTV Player" to invoke "HD Loader" rigth after setting a HD (high definition) video mode!

Any piece of information would be welcome.. Tks in advance!

it's possibol put the PATCHED_CB9.3.ELF in MC1 and CB_launch.elf (HDloader renamed) in MC0?

but CB in MC0 don't run (64MB Datel very slow memory)

sorry but it's possibol ulaunch.elf in dev1 (boot.elf)?
CB after launch and insert code, return in ulaunch.elf and not in HDLoader because ulaunch is renamed in boot.elf

I can't seem to get the CB to start up from the ELF. I tried it on my memory card and on my flash drive, but to no avail. It doesn't seem to work no matter how many times or ways I try. Any help would be appreciated.

You mention no details at all about your console, its homebrew boot method, or the method used to launch the CB elf. So you are leaving everything unspecified for us to guess at...

Even so, the most likeliest cause to a seeming freeze is if you are using a slim console and have not realized that CB is incompatible to its USB interface. If anything at all is connected to either USB slot of the PS2 when starting CodeBreaker, then it will seemingly freeze, in fact continuing to run, but at super-slow speed. But if you then remove the USB device in question (even if it was the one CodeBreaker started from), then CodeBreaker will continue at normal speed.

But since CodeBreaker has a huge elf, which takes quite some time to load, it is difficult to time the removal precisely, and if you remove a drive that the elf is loaded from before that load has completed, then the result will be a total freeze/crash, with possible corruption to the USB drive as well.

For that reason I prefer to run CodeBreaker from a large MC instead, when using it with a slim PSTwo, and have no USB device connected at that time.
