    Console Version: SCPH-30001 R

I used the swap trick to install Free McBoot onto my memory card (original Snake Eater disc then the modified Snake Eater disc). I used the Noobie Package too. I've made a backup of Shadow of the Colossus using DVD Decrypter, patched it using the GUI v.24, and burned it using IMGBurn at x4 speed. I've tried Gigaware DVD-R, Sony DVD-R, and Memorex DVD+R. Now, what I do is turn on my PS2 using the open drive bay button, stick the game in, close the drive bay, and go to the ESR menu. It says Unknown Media in Drive. I've tried using Snake Eater and Okami, and ICO backups too, but they all give me the same error. My PS2 reads original discs fine though, including movies, single, and dual layer games.

I read something about a cdvdinit fix in the sticky, and idk if this is installed or not. Is it necessary to install? Also, when I have the games in the drive, it doesn't make the usual noises that it does when it reads a regular game. It's like the game doesn't even really spin up at all. My laser also doesn't make that dreaded ticking noise that indicates the drive is about to die. Please help me!!

Don't use DVD+R discs, most of lasers installed in FAT models have serious problem with reading them. If your laser reads dual layer discs fine, it should be at least in good condition ( altough I can't be 100 % sure ) Did you tried clearing your laser lens and mirror? When lens are dirty, laser doesn't have to make that "dreaded ticking noise" but it may have problems reading discs as it mostly skip certain areas of the discs or refuse to read them instead of data read retries which cause ticking noise.

Here's tutorial how to clean PS2 laser lens.

I just used one DVD+R just to see if it would work, the other 20 DVDs I've burned have been DVD-R from 3 different brands.

I've tried adjusting the laser (while testing out all 3 brands to see if one would work) and I cleaned both the top mirror and the bottom mirror of the laser (with the guide you provided) and it still doesn't work. I'm feeling this is a user-side error and not a machine error, but, according to all the guides, I'm not doing anything wrong.

have you verified that there is data on the disk by putting in your computer drive and opening the drive to see if there is data on the disk

if that does not work can you do me a favor and look at the bottom of the disk (data, colored side) and verify weather you can see the data burned to the disk

you should see 2 different shades of what ever color the matrix color is
    sometimes silver
you might have to use a skewed light source (this is done by holding the disk between you and a light source and look at the disk at an angle)

if there is no difference it is a possibility that what ever tool you used to burn the disk has the option to do a test burn is enabled
please bare with me dyslexia is a pain

I used ImageBurn and the Verify option to ensure that the discs were burned correctly. All discs show data on them in the DVD Drive and all of them have the ring of data that can be seen on the back. I was not using the test option on any of the discs.

What DVD burner do you use? That might be a problem too because everything else seems to be ok. When you patch ISO with ESR patcher it does say that game was patched?

That's what my burner says under Properties.

Yes, it says the games are patched, and if I try to do it again, it says that the games are already patched, so I'm guessing that it's working. Are there supposed to be any differences in the file sizes? They're exactly the same before and after the patching.
