Should i buy some Verbatims?

Im tired of getting media that stutters horribly. And after learning that there is nowhere within a 200 mile radius of here that sels decent DVD-Rs i plan on buying some 16x Verbatim with AZO as has been recomended by dlanor(sorry if i misspelled your name)

Now the reason i mae this thread, is because i am unsure if it SOLELY the dvd-rs fault. Currently they are memorex RITEKF1, which was a huge improvement over some CMCs i had. But im not sure if the problem also lies with my ps2 and my burner. My burner is built into a dell inspiron e1505, and my ps2 is a model SCPH-50001. Will getting verbatims truly fix everything, or does the problem result from my burner or ps2?

A quick answer will be appreciated, as i plan to order the verbatims tomorrow.

Well, if you want to know whether it'll help your PS2....
From my own experience when I first started using a FAT (Nasty experience)...

It rejected ever single one of my HP discs, but smoothly read my new Verbatim DVD-R discs (No disc read errors, videos skipping, or that "clicking" sound of it's laser). That was the SCPH-39001 I [i]used[I] to have, with a KHS-400C laser. Your SCPH-50001 PS2 should have a HD7 laser, which should be better than this one.

If your PS2's laser is worn out (Or simply near the end of it's lifespan...), sorry. Verbatim discs may help to prevent it from worsening faster... but may not help to prevent disc read errors.

You could try to "borrow" a Verbatim DVD-R disc, or simply buy a single one to test first...

About your PC:

It should be fine, as long as there are no hardware issues, your software and hardware firmware are up to date, and you tried to verify your burned discs before use.

I truly believe nothig is wrong with my laser. I have not had a SING disk read error, and it was previously owned by my brother who took great care of it. I cant remember if i restated in this thread, but as you know from reading my last one, going from those false TDKs to some memorexes produced a substantial decrease in stutters.


Also, my computer is perfectly fine, i was worried about my burner, you seem to have put an end to that fear.


So now i can only ask your opinion. I only have the option to buy a 50 pack of verbatims, what would you do in my situation?

But you said that you still experienced stuttering. That is evidence of your console encountering a read error.

Of course, that was when you were using cheap discs. Verbatims should fix that, but I was only warning you that it won't if your laser/LA chip was already damaged.

In summary, a faulty LA chip or worn laser in a v9 can cause stuttering.... but stuttering may not occur on legit discs if it's not damaged enough (Legit discs have higher reflectivity).

Try using Verbatims first... a damaged laser system is a less common cause of your issue, but is still a valid cause.
I didn't meant to scare you or anything like that, I'm just stating the facts... in case verbatim discs don't help you. :(

In general, only older and poorly designed burners have writing issues.

Well... because I use DVD-Rs for other purposes too... I'll still buy it. But seriously, I'll buy discs in smaller quantities if I'm unsure.

Please dont think im insulting your intelligence by repeating this, but as i have said previously. The TDKs i used were CMCs that produced quite a bit of stuttering, and the memorexes are RITEK F1s which had less stuttering.

If i remember correctly there was a media forum that rated different MIDs, the CMCs were in the "Avoid at all costs(4th tier)" and ritek was in the middle of 3rd tier, whereas verbatims where 1st in the 1st tier.


And to address the amount being bought, i am unsure if i will be able to buy a smaller amount. I have no money online atm, so im getting my brother to buy them, and i repay him with physical money. But he has most of his online money in a paypal account, so i can only buy off ebay, not amazon.

If you know of a better place that accepts paypal, please tell me.

I see, so you don't have a choice. Sorry, but I don't know of any online shops that sell discs... :(

I can't say whether those are good Verbatim discs... because whether you get a good set or not is mostly luck. :(

If it's a good set, disc burning programs like IMGBURN should report the disc's ID as "TYG03" (Taiyo Yuden), or "MCC 03RG20" for Mitsubushi.
