problem running nhl2k10 in esr

heres what i did.
1) backup game to pc using dvd decrypter
2) patch game with esr patcher .24a
3) burned game at aws using imgburn
4) ran game from esr

the screen turned black as usual, but it took like 3 minutes for the screen to flash colors and it didn't flash quick like other games do. it stayed on purple for about 1 minute then turned teal for another minute before flahing a couple of other colors and finally the game load screen came up. now the game hung on that part for 3 minutes at which the main menu slowly started popping up. but the weirdest part is when i choose "quick game" from the main menu, it starts to play the playstation noise(you know, the noise you here when you turn on your ps2) over and over like a loop. you can choose teams and stuff but it freezes on the next loading screen.
