I'm trying to play "Initial D: Special Stage." I patched it with the ESR GUI, and then I burned it to a Sony DVD-R at 2x so I know the burn is good. When I put it in my PS2, it acts like it is going to work, and then it says "Play halted due to malfunction" and I'm in the DVD player screen. Any clue whats going on?

    I followed this guide:
    http://www.psx-scene.com/forums/free...s2browser.html

Although, my ps2 DVD version didnt change, I'm pretty sure everything else is working ok so it shouldnt matter I think?

If you're getting this message that means you're probably not launching games through the ESR elf? You're probably just launching FMCB on auto disc boot expecting the game to work through that and it won't unless you successfully did the tutorial and changed your DVD version number. Start the tutorial over..OR just skip all that junk and go through ULaunchElf.

What you should do is install FMCB, then have it auto boot ULaunchElf, then within ULaunchElf you're going to execute the ESR r9a beta ELF, found here -- http://psx-scene.com/forums/attachme...2&d=1216387415

If you want it to load faster, just set ESR to "Auto" in the ULaunchElf settings and put the Timer on like zero seconds, or disable the timer altogether.

Is there a way to make it auto launch FMCB without a psx trigger disc? The reason I ask is because my trigger disc is on its way out due to scratches, and its very hard to get my ps2 to read it.

OMFG You dont have a clue, and you havent read what you need to read.... FMCB, as its name implies, boot from the MC you dont need a disc to boot Free MCBoot.

And that error you say, its from the dvd player on the ps2 (ESR didnt started), well to boot your game

    read this

    http://www.psx-scene.com/forums/freevast/58292-official-free-mc-boot-releases.html

and then install (unless you have it already)

after that, read this and install
    http://www.psx-scene.com/forums/free...blic-beta.html

if you dont see a splash screen and flashing colors at start, then ESR didnt start

sure, just install Free McBoot! Make sure to have uLe's BOOT.ELF next to the insaller when you run it and it will be installed. Then on next bootup all you need is the MC and nothing else for ule to start.
    PS2 Consoles:
    SCPH-30001 [V4] - unmodded (2)
    SCPH-30001-R [V5] DMS4 Pro SE

    SCPH-79001 [V16] Silver - unmodded

You never now, before you tested it (i.e. with an app ).
Slow burning-speed is no warranty, to get good burning-results.
    Especially on DVDRs!

ESR is not loaded. That simple.
No it won't work, if it isn't shown, or you havn't changed it to right DVD-Version, + Region-Letter.

Ah,... You got it to work with FMCB.
But the other method should also work.
