Hi, I recently got into this whole softmodding thing, and decided to make a backup a game, Culdcept, because I'd rather nothing happen to the original considering how rare it is.

I got Free McBoot installed on a memory card with some help from a friend, and made an image of the Culdcept DVD. I patched the image using ESR Patcher 0.2.4 and when burned and placed inside of the PS2, nothing happens whatsoever. Looking for the .elf files with the browser results in an empty structure, and the ESR program on Free McBoot detects no media.

Burned with ImgBurn at 2x speeds.

    Anything else I should say?

What files did you use when you installed FMCB?

Did you use the noobie package? All the required files are in it,

Burning with IMGBurn is the way to go, but not X 2 speed, and defiantly not DVD-RW.

Burn your patched .ISO with IMGBurn at half your burners max speed, that's what most seem to do. But myself and many other just let IMGBurn use AUTO burn speed, I have yet to have a bad burn with this setting.

Thanks for the fast reply, wasn't expecting that

I had a friend install it for me, I could ask him, I can pretty much redo an install myself. Its Free McBoot 1.8, I'm guessing its a noobie install, dunno though to be honest. Theres a fullset of choices when I boot (ESR, uLaunchelf, SMS,HD Loader) besides the obvious config options.

I used auto speed, which just happened to be 2x the speed. Thought I'd list it incase people get higher speeds from autoburning. Didn't know :P

I'm aware DVD-RW isn't really good to use for backup media on the PS2, but is it because of the damage it does to the PS2, or is it just not compatible in some cases?

It actually could be a combination of both.

Yes DVD-RW are not to be used, I'm sure for testing purposes, it will not hurt. But that could also have a negative answer on the compatibility of that game. Meaning it does work on a DVD-/+ R, but might not be readable on a DVD-RW.

Well, just to make sure, how do I know I am patching it correctly? Is it simply using the program and clicking patch, and it should work, or do I need the additional files from ESR9b in there? Does it affect backup loading if I did a 1:1 image of the game?

Its all fairly confusing, and documentation of usage is scarce. I can only assume its either A) as easy as it seems (click and load) and my media is faulty or b) i'm missing a step

Tried again with a Memorex DVD-R at 4x. Says unknown media type, does not boot. At least its being recognized, I guess?

OK, the only thing else I can think of, it should have been the first questions I should have asked.

    What game is it?

    Is that game even compatible?

And where did you get it from?

Its Culdcept, its a card game, pretty rare to find. Had a release on Xbox360 recently.

Im still looking for a compatibility list for PS2 backups, but I can't seem to find one for softmodding.

And its a 1:1 copy. I copied it because the game is hard to find, and I'd hate to have to make another image (Its nearly impossible to find an image online). I used dd under a Windows environment, incase that means anything.

here you go dj, some info on the game in question.
    http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/strategy...ept/index.html

@ Dan - It very well could be that ESR isn't compatible with this game. One other option is to see if it will work in Open PS2 Loader by either using USB or via network streaming of the game.
