I had similar trouble getting games to run with esr on my verbatim disks, so i burned off the same game at different speeds and tried them one after another until one worked.
Iwas using ImgBurn and the one that worked was at 4x burning speed
game was GT4
now all games i do with these disks at 4x work perfectly instantly.

Unfortunately I've already tried that and it didn't work. I think my laser is too old or weak. Thank you for your reply though. However, I am trying open ps2 loader smb. But I could use some help getting it working. I'm using an ethernet cable from my laptop to my ps2. I'm sharing a folder with a few iso in it. But for some reason the ps2 doesn't ever find the network games. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well you might be able to get it to work if you ETH has crossover sensing enable it if using regular EH if not then get a crossover cable or router to make it work

Ok wait I'm confused. I have a cat5 ethernet cable connected from my laptop to my ps2 and according to a tutorial video I'm supposed to turn on ETH to manual in the OPL settings. Is all this right or do I need to buy a different cable? Or is it easier to go through a router?

that cable should work with OPL but if you have it on manual that means you have to start network yourself each time if always connected turn on auto
if you disconnect the cable then leave it on manual it will lock up OPL official if it tries to connect and no cable
make sure your shares have read wright too for VMC support you have to be able to wright to files

That means you have your .isoīs directly in the share-folder??
Thatīs wrong ! ! !
If you use .isoīs you need some sub-folders in your share-folder....
CD for .iso till 700MB
DVD for .iso till 4,3GB
VMC for Virtual MC
ART for game-cover
And follow RandQalan's link to see how you must rename the .iso for OPL....

Okay so on the pc side, I have a shared folder called PS2Games with the share name PS2SMB. Inside of this folder are two other folders, CD and DVD. The CD folder is currently empty. The DVD folder has 007 in it which is an iso correctly named using the iso2opl. exe program. I have changed my network settings so that my computer has an ip address of 192 . 168 . 0 . 2 and subnet mask of 255 . 255 . 255 . 0 . On the ps2 side, I have opl 0 . 8 . elf which is loaded using ulaunchelf. The settings for the ps2 are as follows, IP adress of 192 . 168 . 0 . 10 , subnet mask of 255 . 255 . 255 . 0 and gateway of 192 . 168 . 0 . 1 . General settings are all off except ETH set to auto as suggested. When I go back to the main menu and press O which takes me to the network page, no network games are listed, I proceed to hit X (RUN) but nothing happens and never seems to load anything.

If you are using cat5 192.168.0.2 needs to be 192.168.0.1 to match gatway of PS2 should fix your problem
