ok, I'm going to strip this meaning to the bone.
you have a blank disc. Lets say it's max burn speed is 16x. burn it at 8x. hence why I say "burn at 50% the max disc speed."
for 8x discs, it's safe to burn at max speed. Never burn at 1x anymore. discs are not made for it and will produce more coasters than actual working copies.
well ive seen different opinions around, but half speed makes sense.(I was really hoping for a bit more technical explanation though) thanks for the info.
I second that, thanks to both of you good sirs. Once I get all of my equipment I hope I will need no more help.
I've also heard that it's better to use DVD-R rather than DVD+R? I've never really understood the difference and why one would be better than the other.
DVD-Rs are more commonly used in the manufacturing process. Very rarely will a ps2 take a DVD+R but to find that out you would have to burn 2 discs of DVD-R and DVD+R and check which one.
