Hello, I've installed FMCB with the apps that came with the "noobie" package. I want to use ESR, but I don't understand the purpose of "Launch App" command. How is it any different from me launching uLaunchELF from the fmcb main screen?

It's designed for launch apps with esr modules, which granted them access to "PS2DVDV".
Like Berion implied, this allows uLaunchELF (aka: uLE) or other homebrews started from uLE to access an ESR-patched DVD-R disc (aka: PS2DVDV disc) as if you were using a normal DVD-ROM disc on a modchipped PS2.
This means that you can use ESR-patched discs for carrying any homebrew data you want, including ROM collections for the NES/SNES/whatever emulators we have as PS2 homebrews, or media files of both audio and video kinds for SMS and/or other PS2 homebrew media players.
You can also achieve the same effect by instead launching the file "ESR beta r9b mcard.elf" from the original ESR release package, without making any manual choices.
But the advantage of using the GUI version of ESR is that it allows all the varied forms of usage that were offered by the three non-GUI elfs of the original release package. And this "Launch APP" command is how you get it to do the same thing as the "mcard" variant of the original release elfs.
Best regards: dlanor
