Hey guys, just need some help with this. It's been confirmed that COM works with ESR 9rb but for some reason my copy just goes to a black screen after going through the tutorial. Right before you open the door. Is it just a bad burn, or is there something I'm missing?

How did you rip or obtain the ISO? that could be the problem right there.

I used a friends copy he recently got. Used ImgBurn to put it on the comp and burn it shortly thereafter. It didn't seem to be having any problems, but I guess it is possible that it messed up somewhere. I was more or less just making sure there wasn't a trick or something for that point that I hadn't heard of.

What tutorial did you follow, how to patch with ESR? Or do you mean the one in the game with the cards, right before ya go thru the door?
Im playing from HDL, but im thinking of making an ESR DVD too.

Yeah, the in game tutorial. I already have a decent amount of backups, so I know how to work with ESR, for the most part. Pretty sure his copy is retail, but I have seen some of his torrented stuff with game covers on them. I'll double check tommorow.

Yea, if its not a retail disc your rip is from, thats most likely the problem.

Hmm, his case is doubtful even if his friend does have a legal retail disc, as a backup is not intended for multiple use...
But regardless of that, it is confirmed that this game does play well through ESR, at least throughout the first 'world' (Traverse Town), and even for a second pass through that world, reopening most rooms again (except where not allowed for unique event rooms).
So any failure at the very first door definitely indicates a dud of some kind, whether it's due to bad ISO, bad media or bad burning, the three mortal enemies of every ESR noob...
