hey everyone. first of all i have a couple of questions im hoping someone will be kind enough to answer.
MY FIRST QUESTION IS--is the freemcboot program able to boot import games? my ps2 is u.s.,and the game i've tried to boot up with no success while using the Swap Magic 3.6 dvd-r is japan only. the game is called The Rumble Fish, but the Swap Magic wont boot it up because the SM dvd-r is 3.5GB, but the rumble fish game has a byte count of 3.6GB. the swap magic's TOC just isnt large enough to boot my game.
AND THIS LEADS ME TO MY SECOND QUESTION--can i use freemcboot without having a modchip installed in my ps2? i dont have it modchipped which is why i'm now stuck with not being able to play my brand new game!
someone, anyone please help.

nope its ESR ( play patched DVDs)

first you need to find away to install FMCB like a Modchip or Swap Tricks like Swap Magic or Cheat Device like AR Max .
then after its done you will be able to run FMCB without any of them

so you're saying that i have to burn a back up of the game with the u.s.a region code patched into it? then the freemcboot will play the altered back up? am i right?....im not very pc/com program savy so i'm quessing thats what you are telling me.
i forgot to ask if the freemcboot can boot any game...regardless of the game's gigabyte/TOC size. because if the freemcboot can only boot up a game that has a GB of 3.5 or less then it wont be able to boot the Rumble Fish game.
i have about 20 japan only games and this rumble fish game is the only one the swap magic wont play.i really dont want to buy a modchip just for one game.
i also forgot to mention i have the old, bulky ps2....purchased from the year 2001 or 2002. those that make a difference?
oh, and thanks for the helpful answer.

He already answered you saying that FMCB does not boot the backups. FMCB is the softmod that lets you run other homebrews on your console.
ESR will play backups from any region as long as it's patched correctly.
The TOC and size of the game won't matter because they're getting put on 4.8 media, anyway.
Yes, your console is compatible.

so which program or disc would be the best choice to boot up the rumble fish game that has a TOC too large for the swap magic to boot up?
is the HDloader my best bet?
because remember,...that game's TOC is 0.1GB larger than the swap magic, and if i hit the tray button to refresh the TOC for a disc with a larger TOC, which is what i need to happen, after inserting the swapmagic...that act cancels out the work of SM changing the region code.
so with the FMCB, i can run the swapmagic and hdloader to work together without one program cancelling the other out....and finally be able to play this import game with a TOC count of 3.6GB?
what im trying to say is that i need somehow or someway to :
A) change my ps2's region coding ,using the swap magics program, to play the import game
and
B) refresh the TOC from 3.5GB of the swap magic,...to 3.6GB to match the byte count of the import game using another disc or program...while still leaving the swap magic's region coding change intact.
i have read peoples posts that claim that if you use the swap magic, swap it for a dvd loader disc, then swap that disc for a import game that has a toc size too large for the swap magic disc to boot it up all by itself...that this process will work.
im quessing the HDadvance disc or the HDloader program is exactly the dvd loader programsd of years past.
if the FMCB can help in achieving this goal...that info would be greatly appreciated.
forgive my noobness...but i have only been looking at homebrew apps and forums related to game loading and booting up issues...for about only a week now---due to this one darn troublesome game.{got the game on monday....have yet to been able to play it}

Just make a backup of the game with dvd decrypter, set mode to iso read in dvd decrypter
Patch the iso with ESR disk patcher. Set mode to iso write in dvd decrypter.
Then burn at 4x speed. Then you can play your backed up game using ESR and FMCB.

This is where his misconception comes from. People keep saying this, and it makes him think FMCB is what will boot his game.
FMCB will be used to load up ESR which will then boot his patched game. There are other ways besides FMCB to load ESR, but when it comes down to it, FMCB is the best way to load ESR.
