Free MCboot to load of DVD
Free MCboot to load of DVD –
Hi all, firstly I like to thank all involved in creating free mc boot. I have successfully loaded free mc boot from cd and works perfect all the time.
My question is can I create the same cd onto a DVD? The reason for this is I have 2 memory cards and both have been loaded with FMCB, the kids however have deleted the cards contents by accident so many times and I keep needing to go to a friends house that has the chip to load the cd and from there the MC. With a DVD FMCB I can use the spare MC card to boot the dvd and re write the 2nd MC card. Just makes it a lot easier.
I have tried tutorial cd to dvd but will not work. The closest I got was when using sony CDVDgen, it loaded FMCB but will not read the install folder from the dvd that contains all the .ELF's.
Any advise much appreciated.
Would be better to install uLaunchELF on the other spare MC and save the installation files on it.
And then u can clone the card easily, by installing the FMCB, then copying BOOT and SYS-CONF to another card.
The Sony specific tools for making a bootable DVD are not needed at all.

What you need to do is to compose the disc ISO as what Nero calls "DVD-ROM (UDF/ISO)", or what ImgBurn calls "ISO9660+UDF". And you also need to add some dummy file when your real disc payload is so small. I usually use a 1GB file of zeroed bytes, though it can be anything of similar size really. But having a zeroed dummy helps if you want to backup a zipped copy of the ISO, as the zip packing will then be more effective than it would be with some random content.
With those main ISO requirements fulfilled you only need to add your payload (the installer package), a boot elf (I'd use BOOT.ELF from uLE release), and a SYSTEM.CNF file edited to specify the boot elf in its BOOT2 directive.
And next you save that ISO (for Nero you do this by 'burning' to the 'Image Recorder' pseudo-drive), and then ESR-patch the ISO before burning it to a real DVD-R disc.
That's all it takes. No Sony or PS2 specific tools are needed, and the only PS2-specific method is the editing of the SYSTEM.CNF file (just copy one from a game and change the filename in the BOOT2 directive to match your own boot elf).
In fact you could skip even that, provided that you have the 'mcard' variant of ESR on your spare MC, as this can restart uLE such that it has access to an ESR-patched DVD. And then you can launch programs (like the FMCB installer) from such a disc even if it isn't bootable.
