People are using FMCB & ESR to play backups and one of the big advantages over a chiped ps2 is that they don't have to open up their consoles to do this. But I was wondering if there is a big danger that if you used these programs on a ps2 that requires the "romeo mod" (V9 , V10 ,V11) that the laser could fry ?
I would think that playing burnt discs on a (V9 ,V10,V11) without the romeo mod would end in tears Any opinions ??

I think you still need it on those models.I have V10 and already loose one laser along with the LA chip.I use modchip but if you use it or not it's the same thing. The laser get fried the most not because you use modchip but from bad quality disks or bad burn.I loose the first laser along with the LA chip because of bad quality DVD,the game was God of War and it was real pain for the PS2 to read the disk.

Even if you use FMCB+ESR if the laser have hard time reading the disk, the risk for the laser is very high.

After I replace the laser and the LA chip and add the romeo mod, since then it was maybe 2-3 years of game play and I don't have any problems with my PS2.
