ESR works, then stops working

Console: SCPH-30001 US
MC: Chinese Manufacturer 8MB FMCB 1.8b
ESR: ESR beta r9b GUI Version
Backup/Burn: CloneCD

Games: Kingdom Hearts RE: COM, Smackdown vs RAW 2009, Dragonball Z Infinte World, Final Fantasy XII
Region: NTSC U
Patcher: ESR Disc Patcher GUI 0.24A
Result (30001 Console): Failure - Black Screen of Death

I just installed FMCB and whatnot today, and everything was working fine til I switched out DBZ:IW for KH:COM. I paused the game and did not turn off the console before switching games (I did reset it to reboot the console though) I also attempted to move the memory card to slot 1 midgame. (It wont save game if the card is in slot 2) So that might also have something to do with it.

TL;DR: ESR was working, now it isn't.

check your configurations you probably have your paths set to the previous slot. mc? will boot from either slot.

Nope, it was set to mc? to begin with.

Same thing happened after I checked config though

Ok, so my friend tried to fix it and here's what happened.

-He tried my DVDs in his PS2, which is the same version and everything. It worked.
-Tried his DVDs on my PS2 and they worked.
-My DVDs still do not work for whatever reason.
-He tried reinstalling FMCB onto my memory card and it still did not work.

Can I get some more help here? It seems like this is a huge bug. The only conclusions I can reach are:

My laser is weaker than his
My burner's drive is weaker than his
Both
or a weird bug in FMCB.

Help is much appreciated here.

I think your DVD-Writer produce worse results, which decreased the life-span of your PS2-DVD-Laserdiode.
Try a C1/C2-Error-Check (*) on your and your friends backups.

(* You can do one with Nero CD-DVD Speed, or a newer version with a bit different name.)

Hm,... I don´t think so, but it can be one of course.

Some extra-info could help.

-What is your and your friends DVD-Writer-Manufacturer/Model (or OEM-Model, whatever...)?
-What Firmware?
-What DVD-Disc-Type (ATIP/Manufacturer-ID)? --> Verbatim 16x.-Certified are very good. Just stay away from bigger than 25pack-spindles.
-Burning-Speed?
-...
