I am using a pal 30004 fat ps2 and I have tried both dvd-r and dvd+r (sony) to play kingdom hearts 2 final mix (english patched). I'm using ESR GUI and patching them with ESR 0.24a, burning them at 4x speed with imgburn. The disc just stays on detecting in the browser and GUI. The discs are dual layered and I was wondering if that's the problem, or maybe if it's my laser?
please help, there's about 30 discs scattered across the room

The only thing that is strange is that Kingdom Hearts 2 FM is only single layer
For the patch to work correctly it must have MD5 is 1bd351e1df9fc5d783d8318010d17f03
If not it will not work

OK you say it is dual layer game and I have and have it patched English and it is not dual layer and the patch only works to convert it to English on that version of game only and another tip try better media if you can finally get it patched these work best by the way people have complained the game is picky with ESR using Dual Layer disk that are lower quality is going to probably not work
