    hi just wanted to say thanks to ffg for this it is great.
    i have my memory card set up to boot codebreaker, it then loads esr when
    i start the game it works great and I can use my codes. also I have it setup to push a button and skip codebreaker and go straight to esr. for when I just want to check out a game. and last i have a button to launch psx launch which. also works for my psx backups. I had bought a memor32 card for 70.00 and could not use my cheat codes. I now have it set up with fmcb and esr also. and I just wanted to take the time to say thanks to ffg and the freevast team or mcb. I for one apperaciate all your hard work. I am 50+
    and had no trouble setting it up thanks to the excellent docs. So thanks
    guys

    @ffgriever:

    May there be an incompatibility, if UDFIO has been initialized before, by another ELF, like (exec-)loader2 in FMCB.

    I though about the optional ESR, which also implies the Fastboot.
    If ESR couldn't differ between DVD-Video and ESR-Game, FMCB should do it, before ESR starts, so it may init UDFIO, if DVDV detected, to test for SYSTEM.CNF itself.
    But if ESR will do it in future, that's not necessary anymore for FMCB.

In r9 the same games wouldn't work at all in any case. I'll look into it, as I'm almost sure what causes the problem. But it can wait, it's not a big deal anyway (at least for me, whatever I do, uLE is the app that loads first, then everything else). Actually, it will also work if mcard version is launched directly and that launches uLE and then the game from uLE .

    This is a problem of both the launcher and the ESR, so fixing one side will make it work fine. So if the launcher is fixed, everything will be working... and if the ESR will be fixed, everything will be working. The best solution will be to fix both .
    Personally, I like this "slickness" of having the PS2 boot straight into the game without going into ULauncher first. But I don't run any homebrew on the PS2. So I hope that this issue can be fixed where it won't make any difference which way we boot!

    I hadn't noticed any problems booting straight into ESR until I tried "Kya: Dark Lineage". I hadn't tested this one since I mentioned to you that it hung on the title screen. So I tested it with ESR9a and again, it hung. But you implied it should work with 9a. So I tried ESR through ULaunch, and behold it worked!

    So should I for now, go ahead and always run ESR through ULaunch, until you give the green light? Even on games that "appear" to work?

    Well, it's all about heap... so games that work, will work just fine. It's just if some game doesn't work with current versions, try launching ESR from uLE. It will be fixed in next version, but I need some real changes to justify new release .

    Right now I'm aware of only two such games out of all I and other users have tested.

    If such a thing is possiple noone has publicly explained how.

    ESR will always require the patch because without it the DVD drive will refuse to read anything burned without hardware alterations.

    Im still lost on the use of ESR MC version.. I thought the use of this version was (once executed throu FMCB) that it would load the BOOT.ELF file that is listed on mc in MCx/BOOT.. Is this true?.. I ask this because the BOOT.ELF is ULaunch and it just freezes to a black screen when launching the MC Version on boot or with in Ulaunch..

    Maybe Im just haveing a blonde moment-but I dont understand the MC Version at all..

    ffgriever,

    I just started using ESR today. I've installed it properly and works fine. I also downloaded your ISO patcher (ESR Disc Patcher GUI v0.24a) and patched my 'Zone of the Enders 2' ISO. After doing so and attempting to burn it, it ended up in a 'Burn process failure'. I believe it has to do with the patching because I was able to burn the ISO yesterday and play it using Swap Magic just fine.

    Note - If I insert the failed DVD inside the ps2 and run ESR, it begins to load, shows the 'Konami' logo and then attempts to load the game, where it then makes a ton of awkward sounds and just blackscreens. So the patch seemed to work, I just now can't burn the ISO :P

    Any suggestions?

    Equipment:
    Fat v9 PS2 (SCPH-50001)
    FMCB -> uLE -> ESR
    Nero Burning Rom 8 (v 8.3.6.0)
    16X DVD-R (burning at 8x)

    Yes, and the purpose of it is to give that homebrew program the ability to read DVDV discs, without having to alter the program itself.

    I ask this because the BOOT.ELF is ULaunch and it just freezes to a black screen when launching the MC Version on boot or with in Ulaunch..
    That is not the result I get. For me it launches uLE properly, but with three important differencies from a normal boot, caused by the resident parts of ESR.

    1: You must have some disc in the tray at launch, as ESR expects it to be there
    2: You can then browse the contents of a DVDV disc in the uLE FileBrowser
    3: You are not allowed to launch any variant of ESR from this session (BSODs)

    Note that the ability to read DVDV discs is also 'inherited' by another program, such as SMS, if you launch it from an uLE session that was started by the MC variant of ESR.

    Best regards: dlanor
