I don't think the enhancement has anything to do with installing Memento patched discs for USBAdvance.

As I understood it, booting USBAdvance through the Memento software is supposed to bring about the increased game compatibility, though the games themselves are installed from normal unpatched ISOs, as has always been the case. And that is how they should be tested with ESR too then, simply booting USBAdvance through ESR.

But I have never seen any of these enhancements firsthand, so to me it is all hearsay...

Thanks for clearing that up :)

Enhanced USB compatibility would be neat as my only interest in backups is to avoid disc switching... Perhaps ESR can help some of the sync issues too.

Why is it working for me if i don't have installed the default FMCB launcher?
I mean... i installed the FMCB 1.4 but i used the light launcher (75kb) and he says that you have to use the default loader (i understand it is the big one that installs if you dont have an own dvdelf, i dont know because that option never worked for me). But it works for me with the light dvdelf. Is it supposed to?

Yes. The small launcher also has cdvdinit fix embedded, so it should work fine.

@All... Remember that old versions of FMCB did not contain cdvdinit fix (for example the versions that had uLE embedded...). Best way to know if cdvdinit fix is active is to put the patched game disc in drive and trying to access it with uLE. You should see nothing or garbage. If uLE will freeze, then just use Runme1.1a to apply the fix and launch app from one of the defined paths.

Can't be done. You are assuming that the software bios rules the system, which it does not and for good reason. The way the PS2 works, when a disc is inserted the DVD drive controller performs certain tasks on the disc like identifying what kind of disc it is. So if you insert a PS2 disc, it will then verify the copy protection/security to see if the disc is original. If it passes then the software is allowed to request data from the disc. If it fails, the software can make all the requests for data it wants but the drive controller won't give you anything.

The trick is that the PS2 plays DVD-Video discs as well as those you've burned onto DVD-Rs. So when the disc is identified as a DVD-Video disc, the software can read from it. But ofcourse the Bios thinks it's a DVD movie and will try to play it as one. That's why you need additional software to play a game that was patched to look like a DVD-Video disc.

From the software side you cannot "fool" the DVD drive controller. To fool it would require a hardware solution, or bypassing it with a swap trick.

I don't see what the problem is with re-burning any backups you have already and patching them. DVD-Rs aren't that expensive. And I really like the fact that no swapping is involved. Especially because you can open and close the drive just as if you had an authentic disc in there. As mentioned it's nice for multi-disc games. But mainly it's nice for those with fat PS2 systems.

Patch the game with the correct ID (DNAS ID Patcher) before using Memento patcher.

I know this work when it was test with a modchip, so i presume it will work this way too :)

I have the memor32 card, but love testing things out.

I have the free mcboot 1.4 installed , so just boot it up to uLe and have the patched memento disc in drive, hit R1 (ESR beta r6b dvdv direct.elf) and the backup boots.
