ESR problems

I got free mcboot running the other day on my pal SCPH-30002 fat ps2 using the noobie package and I've been having some trouble getting ESR to load my burnt games.
When I have the iso (kingdom hearts 2 final mix english patched and kingdom hearts chain of memories), I patch it with ESR 0.24a patcher and then burn it to a disk using imgburn. I have tried using both dvd-r and dvd+r (sony) but neither of them work. When I boot my game in ESR it goes directly to a black screen.
Help would be greatly appreciated.

Use ESR GUI version and check the status it reports.

It still doesn't work after i patched it using 0.24a gui. It just goes to a blank screen and stays there.

Not ESR Patcher GUI, but ESR GUI (PS2 executable).

I tried ESR GUI but whenever i launch it, it just shows the ESR logo and goes to a blank screen. ESR GUI is beta r9b right? sorry i'm new here

I used GUI and still nothing, but when i looked at my discs in the browser they didn't come up as dvdvideos. I can run regular games in ESR so I think it may be a problem with how I'm burning the discs. Are sony branded discs good enough?

Browser doesn't recognize it as DVD Video? Then how is it recognized then? Illegal disc (RSOD)? And as far as the GUI version goes... If the compact version doesn't work, GUI won't as well, but with GUI you can at least check the disc status. What status is being shown in the GUI version after inserting the disc?

It just stays on detecting in gui and it's the same with the browser, do I need to clean my laser?
