Esr problem –
04-08-2009,08:42 AM
Hi I am a noob so please forgive if I am posting in the rong place.
I have recently placed McBoot 1.8 on my memory card using swap magic 3.6.
I have a PStwo slim SCPH-70003.
I have managed to get my game working, but instead of the game loading automaticly it goes to the uLe file browser where I have to go into the cdfs folder and launch a numbered file not sure of the exact one.
If anyone knows what the problem is I would be most greatful.
Thanks

There are different variants of the ESR driver elfs to be used for different purposes.
The "dvdv direct" variant will launch a patched game disc in tray automatically.
This is used for quick and easy game launching off burned DVD discs.
The "mcard" variant will launch mc0:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF (normally uLE)
This is used to let uLE and other elfs it launches access a burned DVD disc for data.
That appears to be the one you're using, since you 'land' in uLE.
The "GUI" variant can be used for either of the above purposes, as it has separate buttons in its own menu for launching Apps or launching discs, and it also has some special compatibility options that some games may need.
If you just want quick and easy game booting, then you are better off using the "dvdv direct" elf renamed and copied to "mc0:/BOOT/ESR.ELF", which you can easily do with uLE.
But it is a good idea to keep a folder on MC holding all of the variant ESR elfs, so you can launch them manually from uLE as needed. That is what I do when I want to enable ESR disc access for homebrews, as my default ESR elf is the "dvdv direct" variant for launching games.

Its okay. I know what you mean now. When you download the ESR package there is 3 ELF's in it and I had used the wrong one. I have just re-installed McBoot with the other ELF and all is good
.
Thank you very much for your help.

You are welcome, but for some future occasion you should realize that reinstalling FMCB is extreme overkill and not needful at all...
What you could have done instead, assuming you placed the unpacked ESR package on a FAT32 USB device, is this:
1: Start the PS2 with the USB device inserted.
2: In the FMCB menu, choose to start uLE.
3: In uLE start the FileBrowser
4: Browse to mass:, highlight the 'dvdv direct' variant of the ESR elfs.
5: Press R1 to open the command menu and use the 'Copy' command
6: Browse to your memory card and inside its /BOOT/ folder, where you have the old ESR.ELF
7: Press R1 to open the command menu and use the 'Paste' command by pressing the Square button instead of doing it the normal way.
8: In the renaming box, edit the file name shown so as to change it to "ESR.ELF"
9: As you use the OK entry to close the renaming box, the new file will replace the old one, and be renamed in the same process.
As you can see, this kind of operation is much easier and quicker than a full FMCB reinstall, and you don't risk losing any FMCB config changes you may have added. So next time you should remember that almost any type of elf installation can be handled by uLE alone (the one exception being the FMCB boot file which must always be created by the FMCB installer).

I got another question. Bit off topic.
If I take out the memorycard that I have got McBoot on and put it in another ps2 will that work? Also can you use a ps2 memory card usb adapter to drag the files on through your pc if you get what I mean?

It depends. If it's the same model, yes in all cases. If it's not, it'll depend on if you did a multiversion install or not. The multi version install is specifically meant to cover all PS2 versions.
There is a limitation to this, however. You cannot use a FMCB installed memory card and have FMCB work on a console from a different region. For example, you cannot use a memory card with FMCB installed from a USA PS2 on a Japanese PS2 and expect FMCB to work. The memory card itself should function, but FMCB won't.
If the wording of that paragraph confuses you, I apologize. I've been awake for quite some time, you see...
