I have an image that is in an MDF format, but I wanted to use the ESR patcher on it. In the past I've used MagicISO to convert it to an ISO, but it won't work this time. It freezes at 2%. I've used this same image file burnt directly from the MDF and it works fine using SwapMagic 3.6, so I know the image is fine. But how can I use the patcher on it if I'm stuck with this MDF file? Thanks.

I know this seems a bit long winded. But maybe mount the image with Daemon Tools and then create an ISO with something else?

Re-rip your burnt disc to the ISO format with UltraISO press F8 make sure "Skip Bad Sectors" is turned and select .bin/.cue format or you could extract the whole .mdf image with IsoBuster and rebuild it with either CdGenv3.0, ImgBurn, or the official Sony cd/dvd generator 1.50 and convert the .IML to .ISO with Apache v3.0

Try simply patching the mdf file. It is most likely just a plain, simple, 2048 bytes per sector image. Then burn it.

I did the first suggestion of mounting the MDF with Daemon and then ripping it using MagicISO. While the patcher then worked, and the disc burnt, the game does not work. It boots up, recognizes that the disc is in, and even asks me to create a save file, but after it creates the file it gets stuck at a black screen. Any suggestions as to what might be going wrong? I'm going to try using ISOBuster and then building the ISO with another program next.

sounds like a iop/dnas problem. usually fixed by switching it with a working one. the same thing has to be done with certain usbadvance games, though I havent figured out just what games are good for doing it yet.

I mount with DT, use ImgBurn to read new image, patch & burn back, not failed yet and I must have done at least 20-25 that way.

Well, I got it working. For anyone who was following this, mounting and ripping did not work, but when I took the MDF file and simply renamed it to a BIN file, then ran the ESR patcher on it and burned the disc, it worked fine.

Well it must have a been a CD based game then if you named it to .BIN

That would be why your MagicISO failed when you tried it that way.
