500 INSTALLS DONEif you have a good laser running then it will read both dvd plus & minus types. the ps2 works a bit harder to read cd games and perhaps with dvd9 games too.
it also happens that FAT consoles are more friendlier with the dvd minus disc type and slim consoles with a dvd plus disc type.
note: that you will need to get an app called "toxic dual layer patcher" to patch dvd9 back up discs for them to run for both a chipped or ESR running console.
yup, verbatim and sony are the recommended brands here.
use only 1st or 2nd class media according to this guide:

Late I know, but I'll add in that I had tested some cheap generic store "brand" DVDs (don't have the mfg codes handy) but they failed for use with ESR, but I still used them for data as they seem to be OK for general PC use.
So, I picked up some Verbatims on sale and they worked fine, although IIRC most places say to avoid made in China ones(we all know about Chinese "quality"), but if you look in the compatibility threads, I made some posts w/the mfg codes for my disks, and the lists of DVD-R types listed about should work out OK. If you're really concerned I suppose that you could try a 5 or 10 pack first, but I'm sure even if you got a 50 or 100 pack that were no good for backups that you could easily find other uses for them as you should be able to get those sizes at very good prices while the 5 or 10 packs are almost always expensive. (Sometimes store "brands" will be good name brands re-badged, but it's a crap shoot as batches are usually mixed together.)
NOTE: Still have not tried DUAL layer DVDs.
