XD hi long time lurker first time poster

basically, i got a FMCB/ESR setup thing going, PS2 boots with ESR if there is a disc in the drive, it flashes the ESR splash screen, a buncha colors, but then jumps to uLaunchELF XP then I have to go to CDFS: to run the SLUS to get the other colors to flash, before loading the game

how do I get it to skip all that shit and just boot the game without goign to uLe? XP

Use the proper ESR ELF, this has been discussed to death.

Memcard version is for homebrew to be given disc access to ESR patched discs.

    Use the DVDV Direct ELF.

So I have wrong ESR version too? It did work before, over ½ year, but then:

Couple of days ago after I tested some swapping methods that failed I wanted to play ESR patched game, It booted fine, then I changed to another game, but I ended up seeing my PS2 launching uLaunchELF. I reinstalled FreeMCBoot and ESR worked again, once.
I formatted sony mc and Installed booting-stuff to that clear mc.

Original disk plays fine, but when I boot backup, ESR splash screen comes, screen flashes as it should, but then it goes to BOOT.ELF...

    How can I fix this?
Or is just my laser dying?

PS2 fat PAL 3000x <-too lazy to check last number, because LAN/HDD adapter is in a way.
Non-chipped, and ESR worked before we moved together with my GF.

I doubt that very much, but you can easily check this when in uLaunchELF (aka: uLE) after having ESR launch it as you described. Simply enter the uLE FileBrowser and attempt browsing "cdvd:". With either an original disc in tray or with a proper ESR-patched backup disc, uLE should then be able to show you the disc content. If you can see nothing when using valid discs, both ESR and originals, then your laser is dead. But if you do see valid content, then there is no reason to suspect the laser.

Most likely you are still having FMCB launch the incorrect ESR elf, one way or another.

PS2 fat PAL 3000x <-too lazy to check last number, because LAN/HDD adapter is in a way.
The last two digits do not matter for model identification, as they only specify the region. It is the first three numeric digits that specify the model. I'm not sure if the SCPH-300xx code is unique to just one model though, but my guess is that this would be a v4/v5 console. So it is quite old, and likely to need CDVD cleanup/trimming.

Non-chipped, and ESR worked before we moved together with my GF.
Good, as both facts eliminate some questions we'd otherwise need to ask.

At this point my prime suspicion is that your varying results, with a problem that comes back even after you cured it, may be caused by your USB drives. As pre-configured FMCB always looks for the standard elfs in several locations, and the first place it looks for is on the USB drive.

So if you have the old ESR elf (the 'wrong' one, intended only for homebrew use) on a USB drive, then FMCB will use that elf regardless of which ones you have installed on your MC.

I believe that when you originally 'cured' the problem, you did so either without any USB drive connected, fixing only the files on MC, or with some other USB device lacking any ESR setup (thus same effect as no drive). But later, when the problem 'came back', this was probably because you again had some USB drive connected containing the incorrect ESR elf.

If my suspicion is correct, then all you need do is to use the uLE FileBrowser to delete the "mass:/BOOT/" folder, though you may prefer to first back it up to some other location, if it contains anything else of interest.

If my guess is wrong, on the other hand, your problem seems quite perplexing. I've never had anything like that myself (except in USB experiments as above).

    Best regards: dlanor

Thanks dlanor, your post was very helpful.

    My laser is truly dying.
I booted with ESR patched disk to boot uLE so I can change ESR.ELF to another version.
I went to cdfs: and there was files, then I forgot why I was in uLE and tried to boot game from boot-file (that what is mentioned in system.cnf at disk). Game booted.

Then I changed the ESR direct dvdv to mc and checked cdfs: again.. no files this time
then I tried MISC/PS2Disk and it worked...

So conclusion to everyone: Use right version of ESR, it works even with crappy laser :P (even if wrong version works like you wanted)
