When I have my Guitar Hero SG plugged in, I cannot select the option to start the disk in ESR. Is there a way to make it automatically do this?

You can set ESR to load automatically in the FMCB Configurator by going into "Configure OSDSYS Options..." and setting the "Skip Disc" option to OFF (the default is ON). This is indicated in the FMCB Tutorials here. If ESR doesn't automatically start after powering on your PS2, then you might have to go into "Configure ESR Path..." and make sure the ESR path is correctly set.

Sorry, that's not really what I meant. ESR itself loads just fine. But do to the type of controller that's plugged in, the only button I can press in ESR is "Back to OSDSYS". Is there a way to skip that part completely and just boot the disk when ESR is launched?

Oh yes now I see what you meant. I really gotta stop replying while I'm at work, I always seem to miss the point of the question being asked . Yea I'm not sure if there is, I honestly don't know since I don't use ESR, I just know the basics of how it works, but I really don't remember there being an option for that. This I think would be one of those features needed to be added into the next release of ESR if or when that is going to happen again. But someone who uses ESR on a regular basis might know better on what is possible.

The solution is extremely simple. You just need to use another one of the four ESR elf variants.

The 'Noobie' install package for FMCB includes the GUI version of ESR, which demands gamepad interaction in order to do anything, but that is not the form of ESR that ffgriever originally released (he did make the GUI version too, but much later).

The original ESR release of ESR beta r9b, available on this and many other sites, does not contain the GUI version at all, but instead has three different specialized ESR versions, recognized from the various 'extra' words in their names.

The ESR elf with "mcard" in the name is intended to relaunch the main "BOOT.ELF" of FMCB, but with ESR drivers active, so that homebrew programs can access a burned disc.

The ESR elf with "dvdv direct off" in the name is intended to boot the disc of a game which is allergic to some parts of ESR, so that they must be turned 'off' in an early part of the game initialization process. This is intended only for use with problematic games.

The ESR elf with "dvdv direct" in the name, but not also the word "off", is the main elf intended for normal game booting. This elf needs no gamepad input at all but will directly launch the game in the disc tray. So this is the elf you need.

To solve your problem, simply take the last elf I mentioned above and rename it to "ESR.ELF" and place it in your BOOT folder. And that's all it takes...

But I'd advise you to also save the original elf somewhere, renamed to something useful like "ESR_GUI.ELF", so you can use this for problematic games in the future. It does contain some game-fix features that none of the other elfs have, which is one reason it was chosen for the 'Noobie' setup. Personally I don't agree with that choice though, since the other elfs are easier to use, and thus more suitable for real 'noobies'...

    Best regards: dlanor
