Are DVD9 games 100% compatible with ESR?
And about the Toxic Patch, do I have to apply it also or they work without the patch? What is that patch for?

they are compatible like dvd5 ones.
you need the patch because the second layer of the dvd is read by ps2 only if it has the spiral running from outside to inside but burned disks make it from inside to outside, like the first layer. if you have a dms chip you won't need the patch
@matteogeniaccio: You forgot to say DMS4.
DMS3 doesn't support DVD9-On-the-fly-Patching.
I thought ffgriever said that Toxic-DL-Patch is not necessay, if an ESR-Disc.
So the difference of "Opposite Track Path" and "Parallel Track Path" shouldn't matter.
Seems logical, due to the DVDV-Format (but I didn't tested it).
So then with ESR it is not needed?
I will test it when i can because i have to finish the game to try it.
And one more thing, the only way to play DVD9s is with a DMS chip?
Is there a way to read the disc with Swap Magic and a big toc?
I read somewhere it can load but then it "may hang up" but why "may" and not "WILL hang up"? In what exact point will it hang up? I am very curious about that and wnat to try that also...
Anyone knows?
Try to burn it only with DVDV-Patch, not with Toxic.
If it won't run this way, it will need the Toxic-DL, but afaik it doesn't.
Patches I made should make simply dvdv patched dvd9 discs work fine, but I tested it only with GOW2. Toxic patching won't hurt either.
toxic patch must be applied!
the unpatched copy of gow2 failed to load the credits.
after patching with toxic all ok.

That's weird. I tested it with GOW2 pal and it worked fine with it. I guess I'll have to work on the autopatcher a little bit more. Well, but using toxic patcher isn't that bad after all... so it can wait.
The only original PS2 DVD9 game I have is GOW2/PAL. What I can say, is that is very important to put the layer break at EXACT location that it is at on original disc. Otherwise ESR won't be able to handle it without additional patching. But' if you use toxic dl patcher, it will work just fine. On PS2 second layer is just like additional disc, it has absolutely separate iso filesystem (so layers, simplifying, can be treated as two separate discs). That's a lot different than what you're used to on PC. That's why the layer break is so important. But if you'll use toxic patcher, everything will start to work even if the layer break won't be positioned properly.
