Disc Read Error

Hi, do I have a crap PS2 laser or am I an idiot?

Thanks to djflexmaster79 I got FMCB installed on the Sony memory card. I throw in the card, insert the disc. After awhile it comes up Disc Read Error.

Tried using Persona 4 and Okami ESR's
burned on TY02 and MCC03RG20 DVD-R's (the PO total is only 43 with max 3 so no problem with the burner)

It's an old SCPH-30001 Version 1 but plays PS1/PS2/DVD's ok.

the laser on a ps2 always starts to fail on backups first. then moves on to pressed media on fails.

That's what i was afraid of. Is there any way to verify it is the laser and not something else. Maybe something that I wont have to use my charge card to fix.

You mean PI, don't you? Because PO Failures in other words are errors that cannot be corrected and therefore they may be the reason for your games to do not work.

Considering how old your PS2 is I think your laser is going to die soon...

Sorry for the confusion I meant PIF. Im used to kprobe PI/PO not PI/PIF. That's what I get for typing while watching CNN.

I cleaned the laser now it goes to a black screen with OSD DVD controls. In the browser it shows the memory card and DVD Video.

Then it's a good start. Now, launch the ESR and it should work just fine (assuming that your laser won't fail).

I'd like to thank everybody even though all it does is go to a black screen with the DVD on-screen display. I'd love to figure out why ESR doesn't load it but right now I have bigger problems to worry about.

It's not that ESR isn't loading the game. It's the ESR that is not loaded. Just put esr elf in apropriate dir (or make sure that the path is set correctly- use FMCB Configurator).
