Can't read from disc error during gameplay
Can't read from disc error during gameplay –

I got GTA3 to work with esr patcher but during gameplay it will stop every 20 or so seconds and wait another 20 to resume after saying error cant read from GTA3 disc.
I burned at 4x on -r TDK media via DVD Decrypter. So im guessing try lower burn speed or my PS2 laser sucks (SCPH39001/N), or what else can I try?
Also noticed the graphics look bad, maybe I am wrong, lacking sleep.

I hope this didn't need to be in the ESR Forum.

I've played GTA3 on my PS2 using ESR launcher and I didn't encountered any problems of that kind. Speed that you've used to burn the DVD media is fine, lowering it may cause more problems, you could try incresing it to x8, that solved some of problems I had with certain games ( long loadings in Ar tornelico II burned on Verbatim DVD-R using x4 ) If that won't help that's propably a laser fault. Do you encounter similiar problem with other games? Do you hear ticking noise from laser when booting your discs and playing games?

I also tried Fifa 08 that took forever to load each screen. On GTA3 it sounds like the laser it repositioning a lot. I cant explain the sound, like short bursts of what a regular dvd sounds like when it loads for the 1st time. And I actually did burn at 8x the first time it's just that DVD Decrypter only burned at 4x speed for some reason. So it's the laser is there something I can do?

well i guess i can use HD Loader for now (have to look a bit more into it) then hopefully try to find a ps2 (scph9XXXX a or b) for the healthiest laser. Every game I try works just the laser is old i guess (and it does click on gta3 when its froze) Any other suggestions or does this sound good?

That's definitely a laser problem, clicking sounds mean that your laser is either wearing out or lens / mirror needs a cleaning or calibrating ( which is possible in your model of PS2 ) If you have some manuals skills, you may try out this tutorial, it helped a lot of people with their laser problems, http://www.tweak3d.net/articles/ps2repair/4.shtml
