Can't get my backup games to work!

Hi, I got Free McBoot today but I can't seem to play my backed up games with it! I burned Canis Canem Edit and Shaun Palmer's Pro Snowboarder, but all I get is a black screen.

I patched the games with "ESR disc patcher GUI v0.24a" and burned them using DVD Decrypter with a Sony DVD-r DVD.

When trying to boot them on startup it just takes me back to the Free McBoot menu screen, the same goes for "Launch disc". I don't know if it is correct or not but when pressing the ESR "button", it shows the ESR logo then everything goes black.

Try to start the "ESR GUI - Test 2" and post, which message is shown in the bottom-right corner.

...or simply unplug your FMCB-MC, put your ESR-Backup in and start your PS2.
If the Red-Screen occurs, the backup isn´t properly patched.
If the Black-Screen with a "Region-Message" is shown, it seems to be patched properly.

It also could be, that it could not recognize the ESR-Sector.

What happens, if you insert a normal (burned) Video-DVD?

I took out the FMCB-MC, the burned DVD got disc read error, while the retail "kinda" worked. It got stuck at the start screen, so I guess the laser is busted.

Haven't got any burned DVD's, but i'll burn on and see what happens.

I'm not sure exactly what you are trying to do here, but using ESR to boot a retail game disc is ALWAYS wrong. For such discs ESR is not supposed to be involved at all, since any PS2 should be able to boot those discs without any special help.

But if you are talking about failure to launch the DVD-Video player for a retail DVD-Video movie disc, that kind of problem can be caused by your FMCB configuration. But I realize that you may lack a full understanding of this too, like you seem to have about some other things involving FMCB and ESR. Are you using an FMCB setup installed by someone else, or did you manage it on your own using some detailed guide ? If the latter, then which guide was it ?

If you are sufficiently familiar with uLaunchELF to copy files from MC to a USB drive, then you should be able to copy the file named "FREEMCB.CNF" from the folder "mc0:/SYS-CONF/" to a USB drive and then attach it to a post here. That file consists of normal readable text (you can read it in 'Notepad' of a normal PC), and it defines how FMCB is to behave at boot time. Even if you don't understand its contents yourself, posting it here will let others help check your setup.

It´s the ESR.ELF in the nooby-package.
It is a PS2-Application.

Maybe you only need to adjust your drive, or clean the laser.
If that doesn´t help, there is still the laser-adjustment.

I bought the memory card from a "netshop". I don't have anything to transfer the ESR.elf with, the guy probably didn't use the nooby package. It's FMCB 1.8. I'm currently adjusting the laser three clicks at a time. It read a PS1 game, Ps2 game and a DVD flawlessly, but still getting disc read error using FMCB and a burned disc.

That´s wired. The same happened to me with a disc, which had a corrupted file-system.
How did you create the ISOs?

It's in Norway.

Ripped the games using Alcohol 120%, I've been using it to rip my xbox games too, never had any problems.

The recommended tools for PS2 DVD ripping are either 'DVD decrypter' or 'ImgBurn'.
Alcohol 120% is excellent for PS1 and PS2 CD games, but I would not trust it with PS2 DVD games.

I'll try ripping a new game with DVD decrypter :)

EDIT: Just so you know I do have a Network Adapter and a 250gb and 500gb WesternDigital IDE harddrive in case I can't get the PS2 to read discs:)

EDIT2: After ripping WRC3 with DVD decrypter, patching it. I adjusted the laser with that game, and it's now working:) the laser needed to be adjusted up some. It also seems like ripping the games with Alchohol 120% also was part of the problem. Thank you so much guys, psyched finally having it working:)
