Iv'e been looking around at different methods for playing PS2 backups and so far this is the easiest method. I looked around google though and I can't seem to find any actual guides on how to use it. if you could point me in the right direction it would be appreciated.

Anyway I have a few questions:

what are the requirements? so far It seems all I need is a ps2(obviously any typee of PS2?) Memory card and a dvd -r,a USB flash drive.

    is it hard to do?

Can I transfer the files needed from usb flash drive to the PS2 mem card?

Iv'e also been using this guide:

[How To] Boot Games Off USB (External Hard Drive) With Playstation 2 (PS2) « Welcome to the Underground.

But I am stuck on this part:

    # Notice there is a .bin and a .cue file. The .cue file is 1KB, and the .bin file is 34 MB.
    # You need to burn the image file. Use Nero, PowerIso, Alcohol120%, ImgBurn, or any other type of CD burning software and burn this image file to your blank CD-R disc. Once the CD-R is burnt, label it and set that disc aside.

wtf? he dosen't say which file needs to be burned!

Let me try to answer you...it's been a while since I've used my PS2 and excuse me if it comes off as condescending, but I don't know your technical level.

First of all you will need a way to load ESR.

I assume that your PS2 does not have a hardware mod (Modchip). In that case your best bet is to install FMCB aka Free Mc Boot to your memory card..

There are several ways of installing FMCB, but all involve special hardware unless you send your memory card to a volunteer to have it installed for you.

Go to the guide for Free Mc Boot and explore the INSTALLATION options, then report back with any questions:
    Free McBoot Home

I should also point out that FMCB will not work on the newer PS2, Go here to check out compatibility: http://psx-scene.com/forums/f153/scp...rmation-63103/ (SCPH-9XXXX v18 PS2 FMCB Compatibility Consolidated Information)

That depends on your console model, as does many other things.

For some models you can easily block some disc sensors without special equipment, while others demand a little more work, and the fat models require you to make a special tool to yank at the internal drive mechanism without opening the disc tray by normal means, or else replace or at least remove the upper part of the PS2 cover.

So unless you state your PS2 model code you can't get any detailed help.

By this I mean the product code that is usually stamped somewhere on the back or bottom of the plastic cover and having the form "SCPH-xxxxx" where xxxxx is a 5 digit number. You should also be able to see that product code in the Sony menu seen when booting without any disc. There you can use the 'Triangle' button ('Version' command) to inspect some information about your console and its firmware, including the product code.

For example, my old fat v7 PS2 has product code SCPH-39004,
while my newer slim v15 PSTwo has the code SCPH-77004,
and my latest slim v18 PSTwo has the code SCPH-90004.

It is that latest model for which most units are unable to use FMCB, except for the units made before July 2008, and appx 50% of those made during July-August 2008.

In all cases the last two digits of the code indicate the console sales region, which in my case is "04" == Western continental Europe.

That determines which FMCB installers can help you with an install (assuming your console can use FMCB at all), as all consoles with the same region suffix can use the same encoded FMCB files (using multiInstall method). Additionally some few regions are mutually compatible to each other such as the 04 and 03 regions. ("03" == United Kingdom)

So to get any meaningful help here, you need to state the product code of your own console in your next post.

    Best regards: dlanor

Don't be scared by the 'special hardware', it can be as simple as a getting a SwapMagic disc, or getting a friend with a hacked PS2 to install FMCB to your memory card.

Like dlanor said, report here with your SCPH-xxxxx number and we will be able to tell you what you need.

You can also get the model from the sticker on your PS2, just make sure to also indicate the date code:

    Look at the FMCB-Tutorials.
    There are some methods listed.

    -game-swap-trick
    -double-(time-)swap-trick
    -send it to a install-volunteer
-search a friend which has something to start homebrew or game-backups... or atleast one of those games used for the game-swap-trick, since it is easier then the double-swap
    PS2 V7/DMS3 V2 (FW:2.4b7); Seagate Baracuda 200GB
    PS2 V7/CC1.0 (FW:34 hacked v2 BM:2.1.6); Maxtor DiamondMAX9 PLUS 160GB
    PS2 SCPH-30004R; NoMod+NoLaser

    3xSony BBA
    3xSony MC 8MB
    MAX/Datel 16MB with Boot-CD
    MAX/Datel 32MB&64MB
