The reason DVDV patch is needed is to fool the mechacon into authenticating the disc.

Letting the ps2 access the disc that is inserted is handled by a dedicated microcontroller known as the "mechacon" (mechanics controller) If the mechacon fails to validate the disc, then the IOP CANNOT access it, because the drive is locked.

The following types of media are valid.

    1)original nonimport ps1 discs
2)original non import Ps2 cd and dvd
    3) audio CD
    4) DVD Video

a "DVDV" appears to the ps2 to be a dvd video disc, so the mechacon unlocks the drive.

    Modchips also fool the mechacon.

Man in the long run ESR is way better.

ESR for me been a nice tool to test the consoles I repair as I don't need to mod them to have a idea of how good (or bad) the laser is.

Am I missing something or what?

Many CD games (or small DVD games) can be easily put on one DVD and launched using ESR... it will work just fine.

Another thing: why does it matter if game uses streaming or not? It's not really noticeable by ESR user... though you're right - for games that use streaming there is additional code needed (especially that on old modules streaming is done by the CD Style reads "N06"... it would be easy if I did them synchronous, but that's not what the streams are about; so it needs some additional code to make i work while still being asynchronous)...

My comment was more directed at them not wanting to create/include a guide/chapter about putting multiple games on one DVD because it might create too much confusion.

The streaming comment was more thrown in to say the data placement on the disc isn't of much importance. I wouldn't be able to go so much in detail as you just did or even scrape the surface.

I know and already got the link(After all your initial post in this thread told me to gogle it) It's just that the guide here with its pictures is so much more elaborate.

But it's quite understandable that you won't have time to answer all the questions such a guide would spawn.
Especially now where the ESR splash screen is bound to attract more people.

. I was planning to make 1 initially. But there a few problems that we face when joining two or more games. I havent seen all of them coz my bro is the one who does all this multiple games DVD stuff. SO I can fully address them and such a guide would attract more question just like you predicted . But if you face any probs do post it here and all including me will be glad to help.

Thanks, I think I'll take you up on that.

I noticed a rather big difference between this CD -> DVD guide and the "multiple games on one DVD" guide.

I this guide the files aren't added to the ISO in any particular order apart from root files first but in the other guide one has to place all the root files in the original order Is the other guide too anal or?
