Not sure where to post this, but with all this information, jailbreaking, homebrews, ports and all the rest that is going on, is it really wise to allow so many "Guests" to openly view the forums?

Right now, there are over 700 members who are contributing (great!), but over 7000 guests who can obviously do nothing but view.

    Thoughts people?

This is a public forum not a private one
Some guests are prolly some bots n all that.
Have you got something to hide ?

And i think this should go somewhere here maybe: Off-Topic/Misc > Site Issues/Suggestions

    Not at all.

My concern is obviously with all this information is going public, it would probably be fairly easy for someone from Sony to come in and read the information.

At least by being registered activity is logged?

Well, what will stop Sony's staff from becoming members here? Or rather, how can we determine who is from Sony?

The internet is not governed by any one authority... and (most) information and knowledge is meant to be freely distributed and spread.

Oh btw PSX-SCENE isn't the only place on the iNET where those informations
are spread ... so i don't see what so special that we gotta hide from public...
And let Sony be, they gotta see what's up in public forums/sites
While original devs are working really underground via private places
Like for example "geohot" & co do you really think they left the ps3 scene like that ?

But what would be interesting to have here is a private section where only few selected people have access...
    if it doesn't exist already

    haha made me lol.

To the op, countless forums out there has been talking about hacking consoles for many years. So no need to worry.

just an idea "maybe a 10+ visits then they have to register?" that would increase forum activity but probably send viewer away. And viewers=money for the sites ads etc.

p.s i dont like this idea but i thought id share =-)

What a wierd topic. This is a public forum, you cannot penalise lurkers for not registering. And pretty much every other similar forum (Ps3News, PS3-Hacks, PS3hax ect) the same topics are being discussed there as well.

Even making people register to view this information is a redundant security measure as anyone from Sony could just register.

Anywhere that's open to you to enter and contribute is open to them also.

All locking the forums down would achieve is reducing traffic/interest in the site and I'm pretty damn sure that's the opposite of what the staff are going for!

Exactly, I lurk at lots of forums where i do not feel the need to register but just enjoy reading the threads whilst i am supposed to be working

As for Sony staff I am quite sure that making people register will not deter them from joining and continuing to read the info. As long as PSX-Scene keep things strictly legal there are no worries.
