Can't make a post –
01-17-2013,03:19 PM
This forum is not allowing to make a post or edit my old post. Its saying that new members are not allowed to post links but I am not posting a link of any kind. The post just contains text so I have no idea why it is telling me this. I think I found out something about the problem I am having but I cannot post the additional information as it keeps telling me I am not allowed to post links whenever I post.

Well you were able to just make that post.
You probably have a period somewhere without a space following it. That can trigger the link detection sometimes.

I know it was just not letting me post what I needed to post. I tried several times to post and there wasn't anything wrong with what I typed as far as I could tell. Anyways I read on another thread that punctuation can cause it to detect links for some reason so I just made my post without punctuation and it went through.

LOL, I'm sure somebody will get on you for not having punctuation. I hope the text isn't too long.

It isn't that long and I separated my sentences by hitting enter twice so hopefully it won't be too much trouble to read. I still have no idea what exactly was causing the problem before.

Well, it sounds like you were able to make no use of punctuation while being a proper gentleman.

If you are getting the message about posting a link it means that the system is reading something in your post as a link. We had to put in a rule to stop people from creating new accounts to spam the forum with links. If you make sure that you have an extra space between any periods or @ symbols you should be good to go.

There is probably a limitation with the site software. It's unfortunate because I see new users having this problem fairly often. It's not too difficult to create a regular expression to match most URLs, but I'm guessing the site software does not support regular expressions or something.
