I tried using Winrar(v3.11) to extract a 4.3GB file(69 rar files) but it displays the error message "Not enough disk space .... Only NTFS file system supports files greater than 4GB"

I have WinXP SP1 and 10GB free disk space. Both my drives are fat32. Is there a way to extract this file using another method?

I have important data on my drives so re-formatting it is a problem.

    I am what I am.

nope you have to convert your drives to NTFS

you can do it with partition magic and not have to format

what you can do, is create a partition of only 5gb, then convert that to ntfs so you dont have to have the whole thing like that

Why on earth are you using FAT32 on XP anyway? The loss of performance with NTFS is not that great (put it this way, I haven't noticed any loss in peformance) and the extra features it offers outway the disadvantage by far

this is the only extraw feature ive noticed is the extracting/making image...

I had NTFS but my startup disk didn't recognize my C drive (NTFS) it only recognized my D drive (fat32) (which was assigned the C drive letter)

It is a problem if I have to troubleshoot and the startup disk doesn't recognize NTFS

    I am what I am.

Winxp has a recovery console, plus you can always pop the disc into another winxp/win2k pc and take the data off that way

you can convert your partitions without having to format

go into run and (if you want to convert the c drive) type convert c: /fs:ntfs
